Performance Measures

Regional productivity averages were used for pruning and fertilisation. Productivity was rated higher for surveys, juvenile spacing and brushing. Productivity figures for these activities come from 1998 and 1999 contracts on the TSA. Productivity has improved since the introduction of incentive based pay under NFOL. In addition, easier ground on the East Coast areas increases the average productivity for the whole TSA.

  1. Licensee Partnerships

A meeting was conducted with representatives from Interfor in the spring of 2000. Interfor has included TSA funding in their online plan and taken on the implementation of a survey/brushing program on Forest Licence A19235. They are running this program concurrent with surveys and brushing on TFL 54. Interfor has a camp that allows access to most of FLA19235 and TFL 54. Since the majority of backlog brushing remains in this remote West Coast location, Ministry of Forests benefits greatly from working in partnership with Interfor.

In addition, Weyerhaeuser has also included TSA funding in their online plan. Weyerhaeuser is currently using the services of Renewal Investment Corporation (RIC) to implement their FRBC funded SH program. RIC has been responsible for implementing a free growing surveys program and a brushing program on the remainder of the TSA.
Ongoing communications with Interfor and Weyerhaeuser (RIC) by phone, e-mail and occasional meetings are part of creating a streamlined process to survey and declare backlog openings free growing. This process also applies to the development and approval of brushing treatment prescriptions as well as the implementation of a brushing program. Both partnerships have been essential to completing the FRBC funded SH program in South Island Forest District.
