Seventh Battalion (Security)The unit's headquarters were located Al-‘Amiriyeh/Hayy Al-Furat, near an elementary school. The Seventh Battalion was an independent battalion whose members were in civilian clothing. Most of its members reportedly made it into the Special Republican Guard through contacts. Their basic duty was protect the private residences of officials.

Eighth Battalion (Security) The unit's headquarters were located at Ridhwaniyeh/Saddam International Airport from the Abu-Ghraib side near the prefabicated residences of airport employees formerly used to house the French company that supervised the building of the airport, near Al-Faris Al-Arabi Club. The Eighth Battalion was tasked with protecting the entrances to the airport from the Airport Highway and from the Abu-Ghraib road.




 2nd Brigade - Special Republican Guard (SRG)


As of June 1998, the Second Brigade consisted of 102 Officers and 2798 ranks. It headquarters were located at the Rasheed military base; a short distance after the inspection point on the left-hand side; near the Rasheed military Hospital. The unit was tasked with being on standby for immediate combat.

Fourth Battalion (Security) The Fourth Battalion's headquarters were located near the former building of the Military Police Headquarters at Al-Nisoor Square adjacent to the highway between the palace and the airport; in front of Hayy Al-Yarmook and beside Hayy Al-Qadisiyeh. The unit was tasked with protecting Saddam’s residence at Mak-hool which lay in the Beiji locale on the Mosul road leading to the village of Mis-hik whose name had been changed to Saddam’s Village. The unit was a fighting brigade that participated in the Fao offensive and endured heavy casualties but was later rebuilt. The Fourth Battalion comprised five platoons.

Sixth Battalion (Combat Infantry) The Six Battalion's headquarters was at one point located at Hayy Al-Qadisiyeh towards the end of the minister’s residences on the highway connecting the palace to the airport. The unit was tasked with protecting presidential residences in Mosul in front of Hayy Al-‘Arabi facing Ninevah Operoi Hotel in the forests. Consisted of five platoons.

Eleventh Battalion (Combat Infantry) As of June 1998, the Eleventh Battalion had newly been established. Its headquarters were located at the Taji military base near the Ba’ath Square intersection inside the camp. The unit was tasked with protecting Baghdad from the Taji direction and was equipped with RPG7s, Howitzers, BKCs and anti-aircraft guns attached to vehicles. Each soldier carried a Kalashnikov with 120 bullets. Most of the officers were from Tikrit and Beiji, and most of the rank and file are from the Anbar, Mosul and Salahul-Din provinces.

Fourteenth Battalion (Combat) The Fourteenth Battalion's headquarters were located at end of Al-Rasheed military base just before the Training Academy. The unit was tasked with protecting Baghdad from the direction of Kut and Salman Pak.

Fifteenth Battalion (Special Forces Combat) The Fifteenth Battalion's headquarters were located at Abu-Ghraib on the road leading to the Air Force School and the airport from the Abu-Ghraib’s direction.

3rd Brigade - Special Republican Guard (SRG)


As of June 1998, the Third Brigade consisted of 75 Officers and 2260 ranks. It headquarters were located at Taji after Baghdad Gate at the highway intersection. Formerly called the People’s Army School. The unit's mission was to serve as an effective attacking brigade. The Brigade used a variety of vehicles. About 100 Nissam buses and Hino cars, as well as two mobile 106mm artillery pieces, are assigned to each battalion. Battalions were also reported to us landccruises and Mercedes 280 models, as well as Toyota pick-ups. Weaponry used by the Brigade's sub-units was assigned as follows:

  • Mobile 106mm Mortars (2 for each battalion).

  • Mortars 82mm (eight for each battalion).

  • Mortars 60mm (twelve for each battalion).

  • BKC (10 for each platoon).

  • RPG7 (10 for each platoon).

  • RBK (10 for each platoon).

  • Russian-made Kalashnikovs.

  • Anti-aircraft (single, dual and quadruple barrels), and Strella missiles special for batteries.

  • 57mm anti-aircraft artillery at the airport.

Third Battalion (Combat) The Third Battalion's headquarters were located at Al-Dooreh on the Mahmoodieh road. Behind the old inspection point is a minor road (2-3km) which led to the headquarters. The unit was a fighting battalion tasked with executing attack orders. Destroyed in the Fao offensive, the unit was later rebuilt.

Ninth Battalion (Combat) The Ninth Battalion's headquarters was located near Al-Tharthar Lake. The unit was tasked with protecting Saddam’s palaces at Tharthar and establishing inspection points and plain clothed patrols on the private roads leading to Tharthar from the direction of Tikrit, and the Habaniyeh Tourist City. As of June 1998, the battalion consisted of five platoons.

Tenth Battalion (Combat) The Tenth Battalions headquarters were located near the headquarters of the Third Brigade at Taji after Baghdad Gate from the direction of Mosul near the highway intersection. The building was formerly called the People’s Army School, and later there existed close by a company owned by the Ministry of Military Industry. The unit was tasked with external maneuvers and consists of seven platoons.

Twelfth Battalion (Combat) As of June 1998, the unit had recently been established. Its headquarters were located on the way to Taji (Ba’ath Square inside the camp), immediately next to the Eleventh Battalion. The unit was tasked with protecting Baghdad from the direction of Taji (same responsibilities as the Eleventh Battalion).

 4th Armoured Brigade - Special Republican Guard (SRG)



As of June 1998, the Fourth Armoured Brigade consisted of 47 officers and 705 ranks. Its headquarters were located at Al-Harithiyeh / Al-Qadisiyeh.
