Semantics
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Whatever else may do, whether we play, make friends or make war, we talk. We talks by means of using words, phrases, and sentences. The possession of language that makes us human and distinguishes us from animal. Animal is able to communicate with each other only in certain and limited way, that is when the object being communicated exists in its environment while the process of communication take place. In reverse human can communicate without the existence of object. By possessing language human thinks of something which is stored in his mind. When he is in the toilet, for example, he thinks of his biology or plan what he will have for dinner.
Then, what is language To answer this question let us pick one of many definitions of language which seems to be a reproduction within those definition by each linguist ;
“ Language is purely human and non instinctive method of communicating ideas, emotions, and desires by means of a system of voluntarily symbols (Sapir, This definition emphasizes three important aspects of language Language is for human, as has been explained above.

Language is non-instinctive means, that it has to be learnt, in other words, language acquisition is got through learning.

Learning the language as a system of arbitrary conventional symbols. The symbols are vocals which are produced by the organ speech. Though secondary systems as writing and other codes, they are complement to vocal system.
From the third aspect, we can also generate others which specify the language to be scientific.
