| 1.4 Language is Meaningful The speech sounds which are produced are connected with the fact of the human life and cultural environment. Concerning with the fact a child becomes a member of community principally through the acquisition of language. 1.5 Language is Arbitrary It is impossible two speakers of different languages make communication, for there is no direct connection between the sounds of each language and the message that is expressed. If one who understands Indonesian hears pen, he will interpret it as a tool for writing. The speakers of the language will be in agreement to accept this interpretation. But there are some words that imitate the sound of their reference like buzz, hum, bang, etc. These kinds of words are called onomatopoeia.
