Language is Unique
A language or languages can be considered unique, as each language has its own characteristic. For example, compound words in
English such as ; new book, the modifier comes first and then the modified
(modifier-modified). Unlike in Indonesian, the modified follows the modifier or in reverse order. So the illustration above becomes book new.
1.8
Language is Creative
In language we have rules to form unlimited number of sentences by means of novel sentences. The rules are limited, and that is why it is said to be creative. As an example, from the sentence : He goes, new sentences can be produced as He goes to Jakarta. He went fishing, I go to
my uncle’s house alone etc. more sentences can be produced from that very simple sentence.
