9) An additional office to provide working space for graduate students working on special projects for internships. We currently have money in the budget for graduate research assistantships, but this money has consistently been used for other things as our budget goes over because of our limited operating expenses. Our operating budget has not increased since our current offices were established.

The following is a summary of achievement of goals in the areas of campus training and education, information dissemination on function of the Ombuds Office and available services, coordination of campus activities in connection with the Regents’ Initiative on Conflict Resolution, campus committees, professional affiliations, and community service of the Student and Staff Ombudsperson. This summary does not include caseload data, nor information on interventions (mediation, facilitation, etc.) on specific cases handled (totaling over 250) during the year.

2) Increased campus wide conflict resolution education for students
GSU 1010 classes/GSU 1050 classes
Conflict resolution module presented in GSU 1010 and 1050 classes in order to provide freshman students (1010) and students in need of support and intervention (1050) strategies to assist them in resolving conflict effectively, provide information about campus resolution processes, and campus resources available to assist students with problem solving and conflict/complaint resolution early in their academic careers. During 1999-2000, presentations were made to eight GSU 1010 courses in various freshman learning communities. During 2001 and early 2002, presentations were made in three 1010 classes and in four 1050 classes. In total, an estimated 350 students were reached via this presentation.
Clinical Practicum in Adult Health Nursing (AHN 7030)
Module presented to graduate nursing students to assist them in effectively communicating and resolving conflict in clinical situations; discussion of specific issues related to doctor-nurse relationships, nurse-patient, nurse-patient’s family, nurse-supervisor, recommendations for facilitating group conflict and articulating concerns to managers and administrators.

4) Continued coordination of campus activities and other work as liaison in connection with Regents Initiative on Conflict Resolution
Coordinated and provided information on campus ADR progress to CNCR for purposes of systemwide evaluation (Two years ago, GSU ’s had made little progress in the areas evaluated: ADR liaison appointment and committee formation, education and training, assessment, design recommendations, implementation, and evaluation. In the 2001 report, CNCR reported that GSU had made progress in all areas.)
