A huge number of artefacts were uncovered ranging from damaged paddle gear racks to a leather engine coupling (uncovered by yours truly – my first ever find!). These finds will enable the archaeologists to piece together much of the history of the site and add to the knowledge of the development not only of the canal but the local community and industry. Dateable finds such as clay pipe pieces, buttons, bricks (marked with local company names), handmade and machined components are particularly useful.
