Roger Birchall, Institute for Archaeologists, and Ashleigh Taylor, Torfaen Heritage Officer, supervised around twenty people comprising members of the Mon & Brec Trust and the local Archaeological Society, Ancient Cwmbran Society.
A fascinating experience, well organised and supervised. Thanks to all those responsible for the dig.
Don’t forget the Canal Exhibition at the Waterfront Museum, Swansea
Dates: 6 July to 13 October.
On Saturday 3rd August there will be a special Canal Day at the museum with lots of activities – and we will be there. The Swansea Community Boat, Black Prince, will be operating trips on the day from just outside the museum. At 11 am Stephen Hughes will be giving a talk about the Swansea Canal (he is writing a book about the canal) and at 2 pm Stephen Rowson will be giving a talk about the Glamorganshire Canal about which he too has written a book. Both are excellent speakers so the talks should be very enjoyable.

Ponty Paddle: Will not take place this year.
Boats in the Water event at Coed Gwilym Parc 21st July: From far and near (well, from deepest Llanmorlais and Gill’s back garden, to be precise), our motley crew of under-used boats emerged blinking into the light of a glorious July afternoon. ’Ada’ and ‘Nellie’, ‘Mad River’, ‘Earnest 2′, and an assortment of kayaks, coracles, tubs and inflatables met up at the slip way outside the Clydach Heritage Centre in Coed Gwilym Park.
