Three Key Positions in “3S” Technology and its Applications in the Institute of Digital Agriculture at the Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China

The Institute of Digital Agriculture invites applications for the three key academic leadership positions and five more researchers in the areas of “3S” technology and applications in agriculture. The successful candidates will join and lead core interdisciplinary research groups in the areas of digital agriculture. The Institute of Digital Agriculture at Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences was created two years ago to meet the demands for “3S” technology applications in agriculture. Currently the Institute has 22 scientists in six integrated research groups: “Agricultural GIS and Resource Management”, “Remote Sensing Applications in Agriculture”, “Crop modeling”, “Agriculture Intelligence and Sensors”, “Internet Services”, and “Bioinformatics and biostatistics”. The three key positions comprise in the following areas:



  1. Remote sensing applications in agriculture. Develop a research program on remote sensing applications in agriculture and lead the group to use remote sensing and GIS for data collection and analyses together with the information collected using traditional field experiments. In addition, broaden research topics and explore potential opportunities in utilizing the technology for agriculture.


  2. Crop modeling. Develop an active crop simulation and modeling research program and lead to develop rice crop 3D model. Be familiar with previous commercially available crop modeling software a plus. Expect to expand the research to include other crop models.



  1. Bioinformatics. Develop and lead a research program on bioinformatics and collaborate with scientists from other institutions within the Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Sciences. Perform higher level analysis and data mining and integrations of the existing data generated from other research groups to extract useful information for applications.

The successful candidates will be expected to address the above research areas and contribute to the development of the interdisciplinary research in “3S” technology applications in agriculture for the Institute. A successful candidate must have a PhD, an established national or international reputations for research in one of the areas above, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills and evidence of productive research publications. Proof of successful research collaborations with national and international stakeholders and researchers is desirable.

Successful candidates will be appointed as the leader in the chosen discipline and will be expected to lead the group in research development. Zhejiang Academy of Agricultural Science is located in the beautiful city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China. The Academy is one of the oldest established research institutions specializing in Chinese agriculture and has more than 16 institutes covering almost all the disciplines in agriculture. The city of Hangzhou is famous for silk products and picturesque West Lake. The city was rated as one of the top comfortable cities to live in China according to the public views.
