INTRODUCTORY RITESOPENING HYMN See suggestions below GREETINGPresider: Grace and peace be with you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ who laid down his life for our sins. All: Glory to him forever. Amen. INTRODUCTION In these or similar words Presider: We are saved by a God who so loves us that he sent his Son to redeem us. Through the sacraments of his Church, Jesus continues to offer us the fruits of salvation. God calls each of us here tonight [today]. He gives us the grace to acknowledge our sins, to seek his forgiveness, and to return to him with the strength of his unfailing help to follow Him. OPENING PRAYER Presider: Brothers and sisters, God calls us to conversion. Let us therefore ask him for the grace of sincere repentance. Silent prayer Almighty God, you are the Father of us all. You created the human family to dwell for ever with you and to praise your glory. Open our ears to hear your voice so that we may return to you with sincere repentance for our sins. Teach us to see in you our loving Father, full of compassion for all who call to you for help. We know that you punish us only to set us free from evil and that you are ready to forgive us our sins. Restore your gift of salvation which alone brings true happiness, so that we may all return to our Father’s house and share your table now and for ever. All: Amen. CELEBRATION OF THE WORD OF GODThe following are suggested readings. Alternative readings may be selected. The preacher may wish to use one, two, or three readings. If only one is chosen, it is preferable that it be the gospel. The readings are printed elsewhere in this booklet, for ease of rehearsal. A Lectionary or Bible should be used during the liturgy.
