INSERT CUT: Mutated monkeys and a mutated Pogo are shown with green rotted fur. Monocle’s hands exchange money with the owner of a caged monkey.
BOY:

(In shock)

The lab! I never knew Pogo!
The shock results in blood pouring from The Boy’s nose.
The boy falls on his face and faints. The cup of coffee splashes across the floor.
EXT. THE CITY, BUILDING ROOFTOP – NIGHT
Gray clouds and minor mist over the building.
Spaceboy stands over the edge of the roof, watching The City. Spaceboy is exhausted and worn out.
Rumor appears with two paper cups of coffee. She hands one to Spaceboy.
RUMOR:

You looked like you could use some.

SPACEBOY:

Thanks!
Spaceboy notices Rumor is wearing her mask.

SPACEBOY:

(Pleased)

You’re wearing your mask!
RUMOR:

I’ve been having a hard time with all of this. I figured it would help me feel more comfortable in my own skin. More like myself!

SPACEBOY:

More like yourself or who you think you’re supposed to be?

RUMOR:

(Impatiently)

Luther! Don’t do that! Don’t play “team leader” with me. I’ve lived this whole other life since leaving the Academy. You know what I’m thinking about right now? I’m not worried about the end of the world- I wonder if my little girl got to sleep tonight, or if she’s up with Patrick right now. Or Patrick’s girlfriend.
SPACEBOY:

Her name’s Claire?

RUMOR:

That’s right. I told her all about you.

Rumor drinks her coffee.
RUMOR:

(Cont’d)

Her uncle on the moon.
SPACEBOY:

I’m worried about you, Allison. The other day with the Terminauts was almost a disaster. I haven’t even seen you use your power! Did you lose it?

RUMOR:

(Annoyed)

Luther! I’m talking to you about my real life and your niece. And all you care about is our goddamn powers? You’re still so obsessed with being a hero you can-
SPACEBOY:

(Cutting off Rumor)

Allison, look at me! How am I supposed to relate to anyone at all, let alone your feelings about your daughter? I would’ve loved to have had a daughter and a wife. But I think that focusing on our work is probably the healthiest thing for someone like me. So help me save the world for your daughter… For Claire!

(Pause)

I’d like to meet her someday.
There is a moment of awkward silence.
Rumor grows a seductive smile.
RUMOR:

You know Space? I heard a rumor that you’ve wanted to kiss me since you were eight years old!

Spaceboy stares at Rumor for a minute. Tension builds up between the two. Rumor jumps toward Spaceboy as he wraps his paws around her and they share a passionate kiss.
Rumor then stops and cuddles up with Spaceboy.
RUMOR:

(Mildly scared)

I’m scared, Space!
SPACEBOY:

I know. You should be.

Séance hovers over Spaceboy and Rumor. He is shocked and melancholic over everything he has seen.
INT. SEVEN’S APARTMENT – NIGHT
The apartment is dark and abandoned. CLOSE IN – Window. Kraken appears in front of the window. He slides it open and silently enters the apartment.
KRAKEN:

Vanya?

No answer. Kraken checks the bedroom and there is no sign of Seven.
INT. SEVEN’S APARTMENT, KITCHEN – NIGHT

A sticky note with “Icarus Noon” written on it is next to the mail.

EXT. ACADEMY MANSION, COURTYARD – NIGHT
Thousands of shining stars moonlight over the courtyard.

Seven AKA White Violin and the rest of the orchestra appear in front of the courtyard.

Seven’s white body lights up the entire courtyard brighter than the stars.

ORCHESTRA MEMBER:

(Confused)

What are we doing here?

SEVEN:

Practice makes perfect.

Seven finds Ben’s Statue.
SEVEN:

(Eyeing the statue)

Give me something in D-Minor!
One of the orchestra members hands Seven her violin.
She mildly plays her instrument in front of the statue. It implodes into pieces of stone.
Seven turns her attention to the mansion.
SEVEN:

We should knock first!

Seven continues to play. The music grows louder and eerier.
INT. ACADEMY MANSION, POGO’S ROOM – NIGHT
Pogo hears the music coming from the courtyard. He looks out the window.
POGO:

(Screams)

No!
EXT. ACADEMY MANSION, COURTYARD – CONT’D
BOOM!
Half the mansion suddenly explodes with hellish flames.
Pogo runs towards Seven.
POGO:
(Anxiously)

Vanya! What are you doing? This is not the way to prove yourself!

SEVEN:

Father had to learn at some point. So did my brothers and sister. Quite frankly, so did you.

Seven plays her violin towards Pogo’s direction.
POGO:

(Screams)

NO!

The music rhythms blow Pogo’s brains out of the back of his head. He falls dead to the ground.

SEVEN:

(Standing over Pogo’s body)(Smiling)

You were right about me, Pogo. I am special!

(To the orchestra)

That’s enough of a warm up!
The Boy comes out of the flaming mansion with blood running profusely down his nose.
He looks over and finds Seven walking out of the courtyard.
BOY:

(Intrigued)

Fascinating!
Spaceboy, Rumor, and Séance appear.
SPACEBOY:

(Yells)

Number Five! What happened?
The four are all in shock.
BOY:

Something woke me up… An explosion… I found myself covered in broken glass and bleeding profusely from the nose. I pulled myself up… That’s when I saw pogo. He was gone.

Rumor And Spaceboy hold back their tears.
BOY:

(Cont’d)

I leaned out the window to see what was happening… Hargreeves’s monocle… It shows you things… Shows you what someone really is… I saw Vanya… She was changed… But it was her… She’s the end of the world! She’s going to destroy the world if we don’t stop her.
EXT. HILL – DAWN
The sun rises over a beautiful hill as a truck tosses out newspapers at the front steps of several houses.
The headline of the paper reads, “IT’S A PERFECT DAY.”
INT. ICARUS THEATRE – DAY
The orchestra members tune their instruments.
Seven stands in front of them with her violin in hand.
SEVEN:

Is everyone ready?

All members nod their head yes.
SEVEN:

(Smiles)

Good, let’s begin!
OVER BLACK
“Finale”
EXT. THE CITY - DAY
The orchestra’s music is heard with a low pitch that grows louder and louder.
Some pedestrians grow nervous from the music.
The music gets louder and eerier.
People grow insane and mercilessly attack each other.
BOOM!
Cars begin to explode throughout the street, both parked and moving.
A car in flames crashes into a gas station, creating a bigger hectic explosion.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a plane crashes from the sky, colliding through the streets and crashing into a bank.
INT. ICARUS THEATRE – DAY
Seven and the orchestra play more and more and put more of their passion into their music.
EXT. THE CITY – CONT’D
The music notes vaporize various citizens into splattering pools of blood.
The music gets louder and more buildings explode into flaming pieces.
INT. ICARUS THEATRE – CONT’D
Seven suddenly stops playing.
SEVEN:

(Giving order)

Stop playing!
The orchestra stops.
SEVEN:

I want my family here first before we send everyone to Hell! So give them some time to come!

EXT. THE CITY – CONT’D
Spaceboy, Séance, Rumor, and The Boy fly over the city. They look down and find they are flying over several destroyed buildings, torched cars, and hundreds of pools of blood.
There are screams of panic and riots beginning to occur.
SPACEBOY:

Rumor, I need you to calm everyone down!

RUMOR:

Sure!

(Yelling over the citizens)

Attention! I heard a rumor that you will find all your loved ones unharmed at your homes, plus one million dollars!

The citizens calm down and run with nativity to their homes.
SPACEBOY:

Good job!

SÉANCE:

At this point, there’s going to be no point in talking about my hunger for speed or wanting to go back to the asylum.

SPACEBOY:

Yeah, this isn’t really the place for that.

(To Boy)

Five, where did you say the orchestra was hiding?

BOY:

The Icarus Theatre! It’s the only active theatre left in town.

EXT. ICARUS THEATRE – DAY
The sign outside of the theatre reads, “End of the World.”
EXT. ICARUS THEATRE, ROOF – DAY
Kraken sneaks up onto the roof. A masked GUARD in a tuxedo patrols the roof with a rifle.
Kraken grabs hold of the Guard and executes him with a knife.
Music is heard coming from the inside of the theatre. This implodes the roof. Kraken falls down into the-
INT. ICARUS THEATRE – DAY
Kraken collapses to the ground and finds two orchestra henchmen charging towards him.
Kraken draws two knives and throws them both, impaling both men through their chests.
Kraken speeds towards Seven, grabs her by the throat, and sticks a knife towards her eye.
KRAKEN:

It’s time to cut this shit out Vanya!

SEVEN:

What exactly are you doing, brother?

Kraken moves the knife to her throat over the top of her violin chord tattoo.
KRAKEN:

Tell me why I shouldn’t kill you right here and now!

SEVEN:

Because I love you!

Seven sheds a mild tear. Kraken’s knife accidentally touches the tattoo. A music note is heard.
The impact of the music note from Seven’s neck forcefully throws Kraken across the stage into a wall.
The rest of the Umbrella Academy appears.
SPACEBOY:

You know Kraken? You really need to stop running off alone.

RUMOR:

(Pointing towards Seven)

Space!
Seven is about to start playing.
SEVEN:

Big brother! You’ve finally made it to one of my recitals. And you brought the whole family? That’s really touching but I’ve only been waiting nineteen years.

SPACEBOY:

Vanya, put the violin down so we can talk about this!

SEVEN:

You should have seen me my first time. I was so nervous my hands were shaking. I broke a string but no one cared. Pogo was there.

(To Spaceboy)

You guys were close, weren’t you, Space?

RUMOR:

I heard a rumor-

SEVEN:

(Shouts)

YOU SHUT UP!
Seven plays a note directed toward Rumor. Her throat explodes open with blood.
SEVEN:

(To her orchestra)

Kill them and we can finish playing!
The orchestra members draw pistols, knives, clubs, hammers, and chains.
Kraken and The Boy charge through them and beat them all to a bloody pulp. They’re all left broken.
Spaceboy flies out of the theatre with a badly wounded Rumor in his arms.
More henchmen charge towards Kraken and The Boy. The Boy begins to dismember several of them while Kraken tosses knives at them.
SEVEN:

There’s no use for fighting. We’re all going to die anyway!

Someone stands up in the audience. Séance under disguise.
SÉANCE:

That is more than enough young lady!

SEVEN:

(Confused)

Séance?
Séance is dressed in one of Monocles old suits and is wearing a monocle. He has a lit cigarette between his fingers.
Several children’s orchestra players and Ube Tribe members surround Séance.
SÉANCE:

No, actually. It’s father. And this is the famous composer Ivan Stravinsky along with the Manchester children’s orchestra and a few members of the Ube Tribe. We’re here to tell stop you by performing Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, at a very specific tempo. And quickly… I have to get the children back for supper.

SEVEN:

Like hell you are…

A Two ORCHESTRA MEMBERS appear.
MEMBER #1:

Madam Violin, what’s happening? You’ve stopped playing!

MEMBER #2:

You’re ruining the piece! You promised us destruction!

MEMBER #1:

You promised us death!

SEVEN:

(To Members)

So go hang yourselves!

(To Séance)

Don’t walk away from me, Hargreeves!
Séance turns around and casually heads for the exit.
SEVEN:

(Raising her voice)

I said don’t walk away from me!

Séance lights another cigarette and stays while everyone else leaves.

SÉANCE:

Were you speaking to me, Vanya? I’m sorry, but I’m busy at the moment… Putting a stop to your tantrum.

Seven aggressively gets in Séance’s face.
SEVEN:

Tantrum!? You’re calling this a tantrum? I’m about to end the fucking world here!

SÉANCE:

(Grins)

No you’re not. You’re losing.
SEVEN:

But-
SÉANCE:

(Cutting off Seven)

You were an utter disappointment as a child and an embarrassment as an adult. So you can play the violin. Big deal! You can’t even destroy the world properly. Face it, Vanya! You’re a failure!

Seven breaks down in tears.
Kraken runs up the stairs.
KRAKEN:

Vanya, don’t listen to him! All we ever wanted was for him to love us, and he fed us to the damn wolves… He never cared if we lived or died, as long as it fit in with his plans. Hargreeves never loved you. But that doesn’t matter… As long as someone does…

SEVEN:

(Sarcastically)

Is this the part where we all go home and act like a happy family?
BANG! The Boy fires a bullet into the back of Seven’s head from a revolver. Black blood splatters from Seven’s skull. She falls to the ground.
BOY:

No… This is the part where, due to a bullet scrambling your brain, your capillaries start to leak fluid, causing swelling that puts pressure on your motor neurons, and voluntary motor activity fails.

KRAKEN:

(Stunned)

What the hell did you just do?
BOY:

What you would have done if you had the balls.

SÉANCE:

(Covered in Seven’s blood)

I can’t believe she fell for it… Thought I blew it when I said big deal.
KRAKEN:

(Confused)

You aren’t Hargreeves?
SÉANCE:

Oh, c’mon! You really think I’d be able to channel the old bat? That son-of-a-bitch is even more stubborn as a corpse! Maybe I have a career in acting… I’ve been dying to get involved in interpretive dance.

SEVEN:

(Weakly)

It’s too late… I’d stop it but I can’t feel my fingers.
The Boy waves the gun in Seven’s face.
BOY:

(Yells)

Stop what? What are you talking about?
A loud scratchy noise is heard.
BOY:

What is that noise?

SEVEN:

(Weakly)

Even a failed performance comes to-
A bright light covers over the destroyed roof of the theatre.
SEVEN:

(Cont’d)

The finale!
BOY:

(Looking up at the sky)

You know something, Vanya?
EXT. ICARUS THEATRE - DAY
The light is a big rock in flames.
BOY:

(Cont’d)

I never liked you.
The rock crashes down hard on the theatre and creates a massive explosion over the entire city.
EXT. ICARUS THEATRE – LATER
Ashes pour like snow over the destroyed City.
Séance, The Boy, Kraken, and the children appear to be okay.
BOY:

(Intrigued)

Fascinating… We’re alive!
NARRATOR:

(V.O.)

We all knew The Séance was capable of telekinesis, but no one knew he could halt a forty-thousand-ton chunk of the moon rocketing toward us. I suspect not even The Séance had known this.
INT. HOSPITAL – DAY
Spaceboy sits next to Rumor’s bed. Rumor is asleep with a bandage over her throat.

NARRATOR:

(V.O.)(Cont’d)

Doctors saved The Rumor’s life, although they said she would never speak again, as her vocal chords had been completely severed. Spaceboy was standing by her side when he finally received the distress call he’d been waiting for all these years.

EXT. MOON
A robot, BEN, is standing over the moon on radio.
NARRATOR:

(V.O.)(Cont’d)

It was Ben, his robot stationed at Annihilation Control… Sonic vibrations emanating from the downtown area had caused large portions of the moon to break free, hurtling toward the Earth. Spaceboy told him not to worry.
INT. OPERATING ROOM – DAY
The room is dark except for the lights over the doctors operating on the back of Seven’s head.
NARRATOR:

(V.O.)(Cont’d)

The surgeons at Huxley General also saved Vanya. We got her there just in time. The bullet had missed a vital portion of her brain by a millimeter, and the surgeons left it there for fear of disrupting the nerves. They were confident that her motor skills and memory would return. But unsure she would ever play the violin again.
EXT. ICARUS THEATRE – DAY
Lupo and other police officers arrest the remaining orchestra members.
NARRATOR:

(V.O.)(Cont’d)

The surviving members of the orchestra Verdammten were promptly arrested by one Inspector Lupo, who was waiting outside the Icarus Theatre on a hunch. The trials start in two weeks. Some of the accused will go to Shinyview Hospital for the Mentally Ill. Most of them will get what they wanted in the seat of an electric chair.
INT. TRUCK (MOVING) – DAY
Two men, GIOVANNI and HORATIO give the Academy members a ride home.
NARRATOR:

(V.O.)(Cont’d)

Outside the hospital, we met two brothers… piano movers named Giovanni and Horatio Goffo, who we asked for a lift home. As the house came into view, there was one more surprise waiting for us. The thinner and more talkative of the piano movers noticed it first.
EXT. HILL – DAY
A view of the Academy Mansion. It is completely destroyed.
NARRATOR:

(V.O.)(Cont’d)

This was of course ironic but far from tragic.
EXT. COURTYARD – DAY
The Academy is stunned to find the house imploded into pieces.
NARRATOR:

(V.O.)(Cont’d)

A house that held so many awful memories for us was gone and we were fine with that.
SÉANCE:

(Lighting a cigarette)

There goes all my shoes.
Spaceboy and Kraken walk through what’s left of the house.
NARRATOR:

(V.O.)(Cont’d)

In one of the first civil exchanges I have ever seen between the two, The Kraken made a vague reference to ice cream, at which Spaceboy laughed. He then said-
KRAKEN:

Looks like you got your work cut out for you, Flyboy.

NARRATOR:

(V.O.)

To this, Spaceboy replied-
SPACEBOY:

We sure do.

INT. ACADEMY MANSION, KITCHEN – DAY
NARRATOR:

(V.O.)

He decided to start by making a sandwich.
Spaceboy spreads jelly over a slice of bread in what is left of the kitchen.
A carton of milk is displayed with a missing advertisement of The Boy.
Mom sits reading a newspaper with a head that reads, “APOCALYPSE AVERTED.”
FADE OUT:
THE END
