March to the Sea

  • The campaign began with Sherman's troops leaving the captured city of Atlanta, Georgia, on November 15, 1864 & ended with the capture of the port of Savannah, Georgia, on December 22

  • Confederate's General Lee surrendered to Union General Grant at Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865

  • The deadliest in American history: 620.000 soldier deaths & an undetermined number of civilian caualties
