PRESENT POSITIONS & RANK:
Positions: Vice Chairman & Faculty, Adult Health Nursing
Rank: Assistant Professor
Graduate Faculty Status: Yes (July 2013)
A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF PRESENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
As Vice Chairman of Adult Health Nursing (AHN), I am responsible for the daily functioning of undergraduate AHN clinical operations. Daily operations include working closely with the department Chairman and faculty to provide staffing and scheduling for all AHN clinical courses. Additionally, I am responsible for securing clinical sites for undergraduate AHN courses. I have established and maintained working relationships with all of the hospitals in Mobile County and a few hospitals in Baldwin County to assure placement of our undergraduate students in clinical facilities to meet the requirements of our national accrediting body. I am responsible for new undergraduate faculty recruitment and orientation and provide oversight for the development of AHN clinical curricula. As the Vice Chair I meet routinely with junior faculty to role model, advise, and mentor them in their professional and course development and in assuring national standards are followed in their courses. For graduate courses, in conjunction with the AHN Chair, I am responsible for recruitment of new faculty and obtaining graduate status or exceptions to graduate status for the entire AHN faculty.
As Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing, I am responsible for teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, advising and evaluating students, and course development and refinement. I am responsible for teaching dosage calculations to the entire undergraduate traditional BSN program including teaching the primary course, remediation, and testing the proficiency of all students every semester. Students from the College of Nursing consistently score in the 99th percentile on national exams (HESI and NCLEX) on dosage calculation. I spend a large amount of time advising undergraduate students helping students develop effective study habits and helping students make decisions on how to manage their school, family, and social commitments. I have been integrally involved in developing Interprofesional Education (IPE). I have been a faculty facilitator for IPE seminars, placed students in IPE clinical settings in the community, and incorporated IPE simulation in AHN 448.
