1917 April 25: Traffic (and Nomadic) was requisitioned by the French National Navy. She served as a naval tender for the Admiralty at Brest. She was used for transporting troops to and from large war vessels but did not see much action.
1919 October: After the Armistice, both vessels were returned to the White Star Line for continued commercial service in the port of Cherbourg.

1927 The new owner of the White Star Line, Lord Kylsant, sold both tenders to Compagnue Cherbourgeoise de Transbordement but they remained at Cherbourg and operated with White Star ships.

1929 June 5 Traffic was damaged in collision with White Star Line’s Homeric. The Traffic’s rails and plates on the starboard side were damaged, and required repairs.

1929 October Traffic was fitted with new propellers for better handling.

1929 December Traffic was damaged when coming alongside Atlantic Transport Line’s Minnewaska IV in rough weather. (Minnewaska IV also collided with Nomadic on 29 November 1931.)
