Bay of Island's Merchant Drowned
William Tibbo, Well Known in Halifx, Seized With a Cramp While in Bathing and Drowns.
NORTH SYDNEY, September 16. - From captains arriving here today come news from the Grand Banks of one of the most tragic drowning accidents occurring in the ancient colony for many years. The victim, William TIBBO, a prominent young man, twenty-four years old, a member of the firm of Tibbo and Son, Grand Banks, was one of the prominent and successful men in Newfoundland, and had many friends in Cape Breton and Halifax.
According to Captain William EVANS, of the schooner Olive Evans, now in port, young TIBBO and a friend, named Chester HARRIS, left Grand Banks in a sail boat for Garnish, a small village twenty-one miles distant. After reaching their destination, the young men went bathing. TIBBO, who was further out to sea than his comrades, was seized with cramps and by the time HARRIS reached him he was sinking for the third time.
After considerable difficulty, HARRIS managed to hold the half conscious young man partly out of the water, finally getting the latter's hands around his neck. The task was no easy one, but finally Harris started for the shore, taking TIBBO with him. How far he got with his burden no one knows.
People passing along the shore later on saw HARRIS lying unconscious and after resuscitating him the discovery was made that TIBBO had proved a victim. Searchers afterwards found the dead body of the young merchant and sent it to Grand Banks, where it was buried by the Masons, of which the deceased was a member. TIBBO was well known in athletic circles, being captain of the crack football team of his native place.

The death occurred last night in Dartmouth, under circumstances calculated to excite the deepest sympathy of all familiar with them, of Elizabeth, wife of Albert TRIDER, chief clerk at W. H. Cabot's. Mrs. TRIDER who leaves a baby boy three weeks old, was apparently doing well until about a week ago, and her speedy recovery, especially in view of her hitherto perfect health, was regarded as a matter of course, but heart trouble developing baffled the skill of Doctors MILSOM, STEWART and CHISHOLM, the young mother, who was but 28 years of age, sinking rapidly. Mrs. TRIDER was a daughter of Captain George MAY, of Dartmouth, and had a wide circle of friends in that town, as well as in Halifax. Her marrige took place in 1900 in the church from which her funeral will take place - Christ church, Dartmouth. She was a great favorite with all who knew her, and the blow which has removed her from the home in which she was so happy is felt to be a very hard one for her husband, who, with a son two and a half yea rs old and the infant referred to, survives her. She leaves also three sisters and one brother. The sisters are Ida and Hattie, and Mrs. PRESCOTT, of Dartmouth. The brother, Arthur, is a child of ten. The funeral will take place at half-past two o'clock on Thursday from her late residence and thence to Christ church.

ELMSDALE, December 5 - The funeral of the late John URQUHART, J.P., took place from his late residence on Tuesday, 4th inst., at one o'clock p.m. Rev. Mr. DAVISON, pastor of the Elmsdale Presbyterian church, conducted the services. Notwithstanding the recent snow fall, which blocked the roads, many friends and neighbors gathered at the old homestead to pay their last sad token of respect to one who was universally beloved and respected. The pallbearers, all old neighbors, were Messrs. Stewart SMITH, James KENTY, John P. HORNE, George McKENZIE, Charles HORNE and Hugh FRASER.
The deceased, although of Scotch Presbyterian parentage, in his youth became a member of the Methodist church, remaining true to his convictions during the remainder of his life. For over forty years he filled the office of justice of the peace in and for the county of Hants. He was a man of strong intellect, clear in his judgments, quick to see his duty, which no amount of false reasoning could ever deter mhim from performing. His knowledge of law was remarkable for a man in his modest position, and he never failed while dealing out justice to temper it with mercy and kindliness. In politics Mr. URQUHART was a lifelong conservative, regarding his vote as a sacred trust to be conscientiously used for his country's benefit. He was for thirty years a subscriber to the Montreal Star. He was noted for his kindness and hospitality both at home and toward his neighbors, not one of whom but accorded him the respect and esteem due an honorable man in whom there was no double-dealing. He leaves a family of ten, four daughters and six sons, to mourn the loss of a beloved and respected father, whose place cannot be filled on earth, but whose example is worthy of an honored place in the lives of each and all of them. Mrs. KENTY, North Sydney; Mrs. FIELDING, Windsor, and Messrs. Fred and James URQUHART, of Kentville and Wellington, respectively, were with their father when he died, and remained until after the funeral on Tuesday.

The death occurred at Prospect, on Friday, September 20th, of Margaret, widow of William WALSH, aged eighty-five years. The death of this lovable old lady - a remarkable one in many respects - will be very deeply regretted throughout the section in which she lived. In spite of her advanced age, she retained the use of all her faculties to the last. Her last illness was of only eight days duration, and up to that time she enjoyed practically perfect health. Possessed of a most kind heart, delighting to do good unostentatiously, she will be sadly missed.
Her funeral, which took place on Sunday last, was one of the largest which has taken place in the neighborhood in years, and many expressions of sympathy were received.
She is survived by two sons and four daughters - Mrs. CAMERON, Mrs. Frank MEEHAN, Mrs. P.A. DUGGAN, and Mrs. Daniel MEERHYS.
