2016 Annual Spring Shamrock Regatta

Notice of Race

Saturday March 19th, 2016

Place: Boat House Marina, Palatka, Florida

Date: One Day only Saturday March 19th, 2016



Management: This regatta will be managed by the Gulf Atlantic Yacht Club, Inc (GAYC) which is also the organizing authority.

Intent: It is the intent of GAYC for this regatta to be fun for all participants. It is also the intent of GAYC to encourage both “hard core” racers and “cruising racers” to attend. Courses will be designed with this in mind.

Registration: Separate Registration Form must be completed in full and delivered to Jeff Shapiro (form attached) by March 12, 2016. Late registration will take place on site beginning at 9:30AM at the Boat House Marina. Early Registration is encouraged. (see entry fees below)

Entry fees: $30.00 if received by March 12, 2016 $35.00 thereafter.

Classes: We will start the following classes: Class A – PHRF 50-249, Class B – PHRF 250 and above, Class C –Multi Hulls and One Design – if three or more are registered. The race committee has the right to combine classes if necessary.

Eligibility: All boats (except multi hull and One Design) shall have a current NE Florida (First Coast Sailing Association) PHRF rating. Ratings can be assigned to boat having no rating.

Sail Numbers: Boats with US Sailing numbers or unique Class numbers on their mainsail shall use those numbers. Boats without such numbers may at the discretion of the organizers be issued temporary numbers or other designations.

Races/Racing Area: Races/Racing Area: There will be multiple “round the buoys” races taking place in the river in front of the Palatka Marina and Boat House Marina. The races will be “windward” leeward style with the length being according to wind and water configurations. It is our intent to get in as many races as possible. One race constitutes a regatta.

Starts/Scoring: Each Class will start in accordance with their code/Class Flag as stated above in “Classes”. Note – The start may or may not be in order of ABC. The Race Committee will notify which class is starting prior to their start over the VHF Radio.

Racing Rules: This regatta will be governed by the current US Sailing Rules, it Prescriptions and the GAYC Sailing Instructions. Z Flag and Black Flag rules (30.2 and 30.3 are not in effect)

Safety: The Prescription that flotation devices must be worn at the start and finish in NOT in effect. Skippers/Owners shall make their own determination and conform with US Coast Guard regulations concerning Flotation and other required equipment. Skippers and crew alike are reminded of Racing Rules 1.1 (Helping Those in Danger) 1.2 (Life saving Equipment and Personal Buoyancy), and 4.0 (Decision to Race)

Approximate Schedule: Skippers meeting will be held at the Boat House Marina at 10:00 AM EST. The First warning signal will be at 11:00AM EST. Boats must be launched by time the skippers meeting starts.

Sailing Instructions: Separate Sailing Instructions will be distributed at the Skippers Meeting.

Communications: All boats are required to have on board either permanently mounted VHF or a hand held VHF. The Race Committee will make every effort to communicate instructions via Channel 68. Failure to do so will not constitute right to protest or redress. Multi Hulls are exempt from this requirement.

Special Events: We will gather at Beef O’Brady’s after the races where we will present awards. Dinner will be off the menu and on your own.

Trophies: There will be awards for the first three winners per class

AS THIS IS ST. PATRICKS DAY WEEKEND THERE WILL BE A TROPHY FOR THE BEST DRESSED ENTIRE CREW ON BOARD.
