A common and reasonable fear of AI is job loss, and while it is valid, it is also essentially the reason why AI was created. The textbook definition of “Automation” is the minimizing of human contribution to the outcome. Throughout history, our species have constantly been aiming to simply our way of life so that there is less work to do, ever since the creation of the wheel. We invented farming tools to ensure less manual labour while still having the same load out-put, freeing up more people's time to dedicate to a better way of life. Artificial Intelligence is just the next tool to advance our society.
In another example, an accountant is sometimes called a “Bookkeeper”. This term originated from their additional role of keeping all their bank’s/financial institutions in huge rooms of organized ledgers and books. In this day and age, education, industry underwent a transition and accountants, now aided with computers, have efficiently replaced the previously “human only” industry.
AI progress and advancements won’t be stopping anytime soon, the financial goal for creating AI and automated tasks is too great and companies with the funds and desire for simplified work will continue this trend in order to make more money, getting more bang for their buck. Whether or not this is a “good thing” doesn’t truly matter or account for much because the situation is already out of our hands. Artificial Intelligence is here and thriving, and just like it, we have to learn to adapt to our new obstacle.
This is not a “technical” or “computing” problem, coding won’t be held accountable for the progression. This is the world’s issue. The productive output of society with AI is greater than ever, and with less man power needed. There will be plenty of resources for everyone, the “job loss” aspect of Artificial Intelligence is a factor that relies of both society and government power to adapt and solve.
