The JFPP enables undergraduate Medical Students, and Graduate Entry Students to undertake a placement in a rural or remote community for a minimum of 2 weeks each year, generally over a 4 year period. Medical students work closely with a GP mentor and the host community to develop a better understanding of the challenges and rewards associated with rural practice and non-metropolitan health care services. This program is administered by the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) on behalf of the Government. The JFPP covers the cost of travel and accommodation for students to go on placement and ACRRM provides assistance with these arrangements. In addition to this students are paid $500 per week to cover food and living expenses during the placement. Applicants must be Australian citizens or Permanent Residents and enrolled in one in an accredited medical course at one of 20 participating Universities. Applications open in late January/early February 2016.
