VIII. INTRODUCTION In compliance with Republic Act No. 7079, also known as the Campus Journalism Act of 1991, the Pilar District is gearing up for its involvement in the 2024 Division Schools Press Conference in San Bento, Surigao del Norte, scheduled for March 8-
10, 2024. Adapting to
the evolving media landscape, this event aims to uphold the principles of responsible journalism. With a focus on promoting fair and ethical use of social media, participants will acquire essential skills and insights to navigate the digital realm effectively. Through friendly and healthy competitions, the primary objective is to enhance the journalistic competence of all participants, fostering a collaborative and camaraderie-driven atmosphere. Enthusiastically, all 12 elementary schools and 2 secondary schools in Pilar District are looking forward to participating in this enriching experience. The anticipated outcome is that participants will gain knowledge
for open communication, ensuring effective dissemination of the community's accomplishments, challenges, and future endeavors to the public and key stakeholders.
IX. RATIONALE The Campus Journalism Act of 1991 underscores the importance of campus journalism in promoting freedom of expression, encouraging critical thinking, and enhancing the communication skills of students. Recognizing the pivotal role of school paper advisers and young journalists
in upholding these principles, the Pilar District deems it essential to organize a comprehensive training workshop. This event is particularly timely as it aligns with the broader educational objectives of nurturing responsible and socially conscious individuals. By providing a platform for participants to engage in various journalistic endeavors, the activity aims to instill in them a deep understanding of the significance of journalism in society.
X. OBJECTIVE: The 2024 Division Schools Press Conference aspires to equip participants with a well-rounded understanding of journalism, instill a sense of social responsibility, nurture the aspirations of promising journalists,
advocate for ethical reporting, and foster continuous improvement through friendly competitions.
The ultimate goal is to empower the next generation of journalists with the knowledge, skills, and values needed to contribute positively to the media landscape and society at large.
XI. METHODOLOGY The scheduled activity is planned to unfold throughout the entire day, featuring concurrent individual and group contests in both the Filipino and English categories, encompassing participants from both private and public elementary schools. This multifaceted event aims to provide a comprehensive platform for students to showcase their journalistic skills, fostering healthy competition and camaraderie. Each participant can expect to improve their journalistic skills and gain valuable insights into effective communication and storytelling. Students' journalistic skills will be boosted in a dynamic and friendly contest environment that promotes individual growth and collaborative learning. It
promotes healthy competition, encouraging participants to push their limits, learn from one another, and contribute to higher journalistic standards.
