Bessie Chapman Jones, M.D. MPH, MS As the first in her family to attend college, Dr. Bess Jones always dreamed of becoming a physician.
Now retired, Dr. Jones travels with her husband, Dr. Herb Jones, volunteering for medical service stateside and abroad. They have served the Red Cross, taught in the Gross Anatomy Lab, and continually care for babies in their home who are in the custody of the Department of Children and Family Services. In addition to their commitment to serve MSM, the dynamic duo created the Chapman Jones Memorial Endowment for special community projects in honor of their parents. Most recently, they established the Jones Family Fund to provide a $5000 student scholarship annually, with the goal of helping others to achieve their dreams. “Of all our experiences, we most value our association with the MSM community. MISSION STATEMENTS MSM National Alumni Association Established in May 1982, the Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) National Alumni Association supports and advances the interests of MSM and its alumni and fosters interest among prospective students and the community. Morehouse School of Medicine Morehouse School of Medicine is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of individuals and communities; increasing the diversity of the health professional and scientific workforce; and addressing primary health-care needs through programs in education, research, and service, with emphasis on people of color and the underserved urban and rural populations in Georgia and the nation.
