to the GAFP Congress of Delegates The Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) Family Medicine Residency Program was established in 1981 as MSM’s first graduate medical education program. Our residents benefit from inpatient training at both Atlanta Medical Center-South, a moderately sized community hospital in East Point, Georgia, and Grady Memorial Hospital serving a largely underserved population as the largest hospital in the state of Georgia and the 5th largest hospital in the country. Our primary ambulatory training site is the Morehouse Healthcare Comprehensive Family Healthcare Center where the full scope of Family Medicine is practice and a range of procedures are performed. Since its inception, the program has graduated 162 residents. Sixty-eight percent of graduates are practicing in Georgia.. We have had two personnel changes: 1) Our Director of Behavioral Medicine is now Dr. Marietta Collins, who started on July 11, 2016. Formally on faculty at Emory University, she brings a wealth of experience in patient care, education, administration, and scholarly endeavors. She will continue the integration of Behavioral Health throughout the program and has already conducted the first Balint group of the current academic year. 2) Our Program Manager is now Colleen Stevens who well versed in graduate medical education having had prior experience on both the individual program level and the institutional GME level. In the four months since she joined the program her excellent administrative, organizational, and critical thinking skills have proven valuable in streamlining some of the Program's processes. New Rotation Drs. Arletha Livingston and Kelsey-Harris co-developed the curriculum for the Community Health Rotation, a rotation for PGY2 residents. During FY16, both PGY2 and PGY3 residents had the opportunity to complete this rotation. As a result of this new educational experience, residents were noted to demonstrate significant progression along community and population health-related and care coordination- related milestones of Patient Care and Systems Based Practice subcompetencies. Resident Leadership Dr. Onameyore Utuama served as the Resident Association President and Dr. Evelyn Campbell-Bayaan served as Secretary in 2015 – 2016 the year. Dr. Omofolarin Fasuyi served as a Peer Reviewer for Annals of Family Medicine and a member of the Practice Management Committee with the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Fasuyi has also received a certificate of completion from the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Open School for Health Professions curriculum in Improvement Capability, Patient Safety, Leadership, Person-and Family Centered Care, Triple Aim for Populations, and Quality, Cost and Value. Awards and Recognitions: Our residents and faculty strive for excellence in all of their endeavors. As such, they received numerous awards and recognitions during the 2014 – 2015 academic year. Community Service: Morehouse School of Medicine Family Medicine faculty and residents show their commitment to the MSM mission to “improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities,” through involvement in numerous community service activities. Activities with the highest participation include volunteering at the Back to School Fairs, numerous health fairs, and performing complimentary sports physicals for Boy Scouts troupes and high school football teams. Residency faculty additionally serve as volunteer preceptors for the MSM student run HEAL clinic and as mentors to students at the high school, collegiate, and medical school levels both individually and as a part of collective Morehouse School of Medicine pipeline efforts. The program continues to work towards excellence in education, scholarly activity, patient care, leadership, and community engagement. This report is presented for information only.
