Campus Description Argosy University, Washington, DC was founded in 1994 as the American School of Professional Psychology/Virginia. It became a member of the Argosy University system of campuses in 2001.
Argosy University consists of 28 campus locations across the United States and also offers degree programs online. The university was formed in September 2001 by the merging of three separate academic institutions. The American School of Professional Psychology was founded in the early 1970s by a group of psychologists, educators, and other professionals who called for a clinical psychology degree that emphasized teaching and practical training over the research-oriented approach of the traditional PhD degree. The University of Sarasota had for more than 30 years offered degree programs in business and education to working adults through a delivery format that mixed distance learning and brief, intensive on-campus study periods. Responding to the emerging needs of the medical community, the Medical Institute of Minnesota was established in 1961 to prepare skilled allied healthcare personnel for careers in the booming medical technology fields. In 2012, Argosy University welcomed Western State College of Law at Argosy University and the College of Creative Arts and Design. Western State is the oldest law school in Southern California. It is a private law school fully approved by the American Bar Association and has a large base of 11,000+ alumni. The College of Creative Arts and Design educates creative professionals in the fields of design, media arts, culinary and fashion.

The College of Education at Argosy University is conditionally accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) until April 2017. The accreditation covers advanced educator preparation programs across all campuses of Argosy University and its online programs. However, the accreditation does not include individual education courses that the institution offers to P-12 educators for professional development, re-licensure, or other purposes. NCATE will conduct a site visit December 4-6, 2016 and, in the spring of 2017 make its determination about the accreditation of the program. At that time, NCATE may decide to either grant full accreditation to the College of Education at Argosy University or return it to candidacy status.
