Atlanta Cyclorama Honors Active Military And Veterans

From Memorial Day To Labor Day With FREE Admission!

Atlanta, GA --- “We honor the service of all of our veterans and women and men in the military, and on behalf of the Atlanta Cyclorama and Civil War Museum, we want to extend our hospitality to them,” states Camille Russell Love, Executive Director of the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs. “Working in collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families and the Department of Defense, Mayor Reed and the Atlanta City Council passed legislation to create a special offer just for them. The Atlanta Cyclorama will offer free admission to all veterans and active military personnel, along with up to five family members, from Saturday, May 24 through Saturday, August 30.”

The Atlanta Cyclorama joins more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to the nation’s active duty military including National Guard and Reserve, along with their families, from Memorial Day to Labor Day, 2014. The Atlanta Cyclorama has also extended this special offer to include veterans.
“As we kick off our fifth year of Blue Star Museums, more museums than ever are part of this military appreciation program,” said NEA Acting Chairman Joan Shigekawa. “Together with Blue Star Families we are proud to help connect military families with the cultural resources in their communities.”

The Atlanta Cyclorama & Civil War Museum opened in Grant Park in 1921. The building contains the largest oil painting in the world. The circular painting, known as a “cyclorama,” is 42 feet high X 358 feet long, and depicts the entire series of conflicts which encompass the Battle of Atlanta. The centerpiece of the museum is the Texas, the locomotive that won the Civil War adventure called the “The Great Locomotive Chase.” The museum also features uniforms, guns & artillery, maps and other artifacts. Tours of the Cyclorama take place throughout the day and include stadium seating for patrons on a revolving platform which affords a 360° view while they listen to details of the exciting events depicted in the painting.
The Atlanta Cyclorama is conveniently located near downtown Atlanta, in Historic Grant Park, at 800 Cherokee Avenue SE, Atlanta, GA 30315. “Like” us on Facebook for the latest updates: http://on.fb.me/1f1ImC7. For more information and to plan your visit: www.atlantacyclorama.org.
