Jean BruntonMrs Jean Webster (1958) died during the summer of 2011 after a short illness. Jean studied at Dundee College of Education and became a Primary School Teacher. Her first post was at Auchtermuchty where she taught until she married in 1969. As her husband was a farmer, she exchanged teaching for the busy life of a farmer's wife. Strangely she had been terrified of animals (notably of cows) but that changed with the demands of her new life style and she came to love them! When her family had grown up she returned to do supply teaching in the East Neuk. Jean was a very keen Country Dancer and she was also a member of Carnbee WRI's award-winning Drama Group. She is survived by her husband, one son and one daughter. Muriel E BruntonBBS 1914-20 Muriel Brunton died in April 1992. Miss Brunton attended Bell Baxter from 1914-1920. She belonged to the Cults area and had been a Director of the Dundee Printing and Publishing Company, David Winter Ltd. She attended the Centenary Prize-giving. Hazel Elizabeth BryceHazel Bryce entered BBS in 1946. She became Secretary to the Manager of the Royal Bank of Scotland plc High Street Branch, Dundee. Hazel lived in Cupar and died in April 1989. Marjory BryceMarjory (Mrs Ross) entered Bell Baxter in the early 1920s. She retired to Milnathort. She graduated MA DipEd from the University of St Andrews then taught in Viewforth Secondary School. She spent some years in Kuala Lumpur. Robert Bryce(1944-1993) BBHS 1956-62 Robert joined the British Linen Bank in Cupar in 1962 and worked in various branches throughout Scotland until his appoint ment in 1988 to be Manager of the Bank of Scotland in Kyle of Lochalsh. He died tragically on 24th October 1993 and is survived by his wife and three daughters.
Anna BuchanMrs Anna MacDougall entered BBS in 1944. After School she enrolled at Dean College, Edinburgh (now Stevenson College) and qualified as a Nursery Nurse, then married and worked in hospital, nursery school and private kindergarten. She lived in Kirkcaldy and had two children and three grandchildren. Helen Mary BuchanMrs Helen Higgs entered second year at BBS in 1940. After leaving School she spent 2½ years as a Proofreader at Burnside Printing Works, Cupar. She then became a State Registered Nurse and midwife and went to Africa for 3½ years followed by nearly 16 years in an Intensive Baby Unit. She lived in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands. Janet S BuchanMrs Janet Brownrigg was a pupil at BBS in the 1930s. She was a Petty Officer in Womens’ Royal Naval Serevice during the Second World War. She lived in Dumfriesshire. Emily BuchananExtracted from FPA Newsletter, December 2012: A North East Fife Dance School has recorded yet another success with a young dancer going on to further her studies in London. Joyce Anderson, who runs her own school of dancing, said she was delighted 18-year-old Emily Buchanan from Cupar could now make a career from dancing. The former Bell Baxter High School pupil has attended lessons with Joyce since she was aged just three and over the years has provided numerous dance demonstrations with the school at many prestigious events. Emily succeeded in passing all UKAPTD examinations with excellence, reaching the level of Student Teacher's Examination, and will now further her studies in dance and theatre Performance at Bird College, London. Emily joined Joyce's School at the age of three, enjoying various styles of dance including Highland and modern stage styles, and during recent years studied ballet along with theatre style. Malcolm BuchananMajor Malcolm Buchanan (1967 approx.) died after an accident at home in Surrey in February 1998. He left Bell Baxter when he was 16 to go to Wellbeck College and later Sandhurst, after which he joined the Royal Army Ordnance Corps. He was a bomb disposal expert and served in Northern Ireland, Hong Kong, Singapore, Germany and the Falkland Islands, attaining the rank of major in 1989. In 1997 he was appointed MBE for his contribution to a Government-led defence study on the future planning of the Army. He is survived by his second wife, Hazel, and by two sons from a previous marriage. Margaret BuchananMrs Margaret Bonar entered BBS in 1947. She followed a varied career path, including being a Pharmacy Assistant, Beauty Consultant and Sales Assistant. She lived in Cupar.
