FIRST FRAMES - pbs------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ FLIP! (THE FLIP WILSON SHOW) 1970 – 1974 - nbc 'The Flip Wilson Show' appeared on Thursday nights at 8:00 on NBC from September 17, 1970 until June 27, 1974 and featured no notable regular supporting players, just Flip Wilson front and center. People tuned in for Wilson's hilarious monologues (often his stories would go on for five minutes or so), ad-libs, and for skits where the host would dress drag as the sassy 'Geraldine', a wise cracking smart-ass with an unseen boyfriend named 'Killer'. Other popular characters were everyman 'Freddie Johnson', the flamboyant 'Reverend LeRoy', the pastor of the "Church of What's Happenin' Now", and Sonny, the White House janitor. 2/35/71 1/13/72

Hanks introduces each episode which together cover the United States' space program from its inception in 1961 to the last moon mission in 1972! This is the perfect mix of factual information and entertaining drama. The realism is unbelievable due to extensive special effects and elaborate sets. Helium balloons were used to enhance the appearance of the astronauts walking on the moon. Weightless scenes were filmed in Nasa's "zero gravity" trainer aircraft.
