We’re looking for young people who are interested in or already are budding amateur cooks to enter a competition where the winner will become the apprentice at The Shabby Scholar (second prize £200 cash).
We’re looking for young people from all over the city to apply – the actual competition will run in February half term, with knock out rounds like Masterchef. The rounds will be held around the city in major restaurants like The Halston and Davids, giving all competitors an opportunity to see and be seen by the major restaurant employers in the area.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for a young person to get into the restaurant business! It’s not about CVs or academic ability, it’s about passion for food and creativity.
Deadline for the competition entries is 31st January.
ZChef Carlisle Youth Zone: What: Zchef is a competition available to any 15-21 year olds, the winner gets a unique apprenticeship opportunity at top Carlisle restaurant The Shabby Scholar, runner up gets £200 cash.
When:The competition will run over 4 days during February half term. There will be 4 rounds held at different restaurants and hotels across Carlisle, each round will see some participants knocked out leaving 2 finalists for the grand final at The Halston.
Each round will replicate Masterchef style challenges, everything from identifying foods to recreating signature dishes.
Who:Applicants do not need to have any previous experience, but must have an enthusiasm for food! For young people in year 11 (age 15)to age 21.
