The Creation of the United Nations
Representatives of 50 nations met in San Francisco in June of 1945 to for a new organization for world peace-the United Nations.
Through cooperation and sanctions (economic and military) the hope was for a better world.
The Potsdam Conference
In July, 1945 the leaders of the Allied nations met in the German city of Potsdam. The purpose was to continue the discussions begun at Yalta. The Big Three this time were Truman, Churchill, who lost re-election to Clement Atlee while at the conference and Stalin. Truman hoped that with a face to face meeting with Stalin, disputes over the promises made at Yalta, elections in Eastern Europe could be settled. It did not work out that way.
