Blurb
Have you ever wondered what the BEST Atlanta neighborhoods for kids are and how they came about? Well, now you will have the opportunity to tell us about your NeighborHOOD by creating an online or hard-cover picture book showcasing various points of interests for kids.
Common Core State Standards
ELACC7W3: Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences.
a. Engage and orient the reader by establishing a context and introducing a narrator and/or characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally and logically.

Expectations (Criteria for Success)
The following elements are required in your Tales from My HOOD Project:
Upload your pictures to one the following sites: www.mixbook; www.shutterfly.com, flipsnake.com, www.snapfish, or a site of your choice to create your picture book. You can also create a hardcover picture book!
Students must include factual information about their neighborhood
Students should include at least 12-15 pages (or more) in their online/hard cover book
Students must include digital pictures (online) or printed (hard-cover) relating to things of interest for kids in their neighborhood
All work must be creatively done, and neat.
No inappropriate images or pictures
Performance Task
Goal: To create a book on the history of your local neighborhood to present to the Atlanta Neighborhood History Society which will include key details, photos, interviews, and stories to submit to the Atlanta Neighborhood History advisory committee for review.
Role: Students will become writers and photo journalists who will gather key details, photos, interviews, and stories about their local community to present to the Atlanta Neighborhood History Society.
Audience: Students will be entering a competition presented by the Atlanta Neighborhood History Society on the best neighborhoods for kids.
Situation: The Atlanta Neighborhood History Society is looking to from an advisory group on the best neighborhoods in the Metro-Atlanta area for kids. The office needs your input in determining the best neighborhoods in Atlanta for kids. Therefore, the advisory need you to go out into your community and write about and take photos on what makes it the best neighborhood for kids.
Product- Students will create a book of the history of their local neighborhood to submit to the advisory committee for review. The book will be evaluated by a rubric to ensure all the components are present.
