COMPANY

BACKGROUND

pure-systems GmbH

pure-systems GmbH is the leading provider of software product line and variant management solutions. The company, based in Magdeburg, Germany, was founded in 2001, and provides both software products and services.

It was founded as a spin-off from the Fraunhofer First Institute for Computer Architecture and Software Engineering (based in Berlin) by two researchers, Danilo Beuche and Holger Papajewski, to commercialise their research into different aspects of tool support for feature-based software development.

The core product, the pure::variants family, provides organisations with the tools to manage families of products differentiated by software. It provides management and visibility at all stages of the product life-cycle, from requirements planning to field support.

pure-systems also supplies the Aspect C++ Add-In, an aspect-oriented extension to the C++ programming language. Like AspectJ™ for the Java programming language, AspectC++ supports the modular implementation of crosscutting concerns in C++ programs and brings Aspect Oriented Programming to C++.

Consultancy has been a significant activity since the company was founded, and a range of projects has been undertaken on aspects of software architectures and development processes, as well as on software variant management.

The research roots of pure-systems have not been forgotten, and the company is active in research in a number of areas, including the EU funded DIVA project (Dynamic Variability in complex, Adaptive systems).

Currently the company employs 15 people. Its customers include Audi, Bosch, Daimler, Danfoss, Honeywell, Samsung and Siemens. Partners include Telelogic, IBM, MathWorks, Fraunhofer FIRST, and HOOD Group.
