Cyrano de Bergerac Projects
Directions: Each group of students will select one of the projects from those listed below. All assignments should be typed, neat, and free of grammatical, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization errors.
Due Date: December 7th, 2020 (Groups will present on 12/7, 12/9, 12/11, and 12/15)
1. Three regions of France are named in the play: the Dordogne, Touraine, and Gascony. Research these three regions and prepare a travel itinerary (including a map in an appropriate format) which includes information about the food and famous landmarks. (Include internal citations, where needed, and Works Cited in proper MLA format).
2. Create a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting Cyrano and Roxane's love (at least 25 entries). This must be highly interesting and creative in design.
3. Write a song about Cyrano and Roxane's love (any genre) of at least 25 lines. Perform it in class and turn in a hard copy of the song.
4. Create and upload a web page of the play. Be sure to include a summary of the play (your own words), a brief biography of Rostand (cite sources properly), links to existing web resources on the play, and some "interesting" sections and links (example: French pastries, French music, regions of France). Include appropriate visuals. Should you choose this option, be certain to have some way of presenting your web page to the class (assume we cannot access your web URL in class).
4. Look at popular music CD covers then create a CD cover of your own for the sound track of Cyrano de Bergerac. Design the complete CD insert which includes a summary of the play (your own words), a brief biography of Rostand (cite sources properly), album notes (at least 25 lines) and anything else you would find on a CD insert. The spine of the CD cover should indicate the CD title. The back cover should indicate the songs selected for your sound track. It is NOT essential that you actually burn the CD (though this is a nice touch).
5. Develop a radio show from one (1) act of Cyrano de Bergerac. Be sure to use sound effects and to break for a commercial. Present it to the class and turn in a hard copy of your script (at least 2-3 pages).
6. Develop a "reduced" or "10 minute" version of Cyrano de Bergerac (using Rostand's language or a distinctive form of diction). Be sure to include props and costumes as appropriate. Present it to the class and turn in a hard copy of your script (approximately 3-4 pages).
