Miss Madge Bedwell died early Sunday morning at her home in Independence.
Born in Independence, she was the daughter of the late John W. BEDWELL and Etta Lee BARTON BEDWELL.
She was a retired assistance cashier of the Bank of Virginia in Pulaski, where she worked for 45 years.
Surviving are two sisters, Miss Maude B. BEDWELL and Miss Euna L. BEDWELL, both of Independence.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, Independence, with the Rev. Olin Shupe officiating.
Burial will follow in the Independence Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

75, of 2208 Lee Highway, died Saturday afternoon at her home. She was the wife of Ralph Maddock ALEXANDER .
Born Oct. 9, 1896 in Seneca Falls, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Filo WILCOX and Esther JEWETT WILCOX
A member of the first Presbyterian Church and the DAR, she is survived by, in addition to her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Charles M. STERNS, Jr., Yorktown, Mrs. Todd OLSON, Prospect Heights, Ill., one son, Ralph M. ALEXANDER , Jr., Dixon, Ill., and nine grandchildren.
The remains rest at Stevens Funeral Home, pending funeral
arrangements.

RAYMOND BELL, 25, KILLED IN MINING ACCIDENT THURSDAY
The body of Raymond BELL 25, who was killed Thursday in a mine accident at Switchback, WVA is expected to arrive in Pulaski tonight on No. 13.
Details of the accident are lacking. Mrs. BELL, the widow, who before her marriage was Miss Virginia FARMER, and one small son, reside in Pulaski. Funeral arrangements had not been completed this afternoon, but it was understood that interment would be in Dublin cemetery tomorrow. BELL was a former resident of Woodlawn. The body is being accompanied by a brother Robert BELL.

Andrew Matthews BELL, 11, son of Gordon C. BELL and the late Mary WITHROW BELL, died this morning at his home in Dublin.
Survivors include his father and three brothers, Edgar, of Dublin; Gordon, jr. of Camp Shenango, Penn.; David, of pre-flight school, Lansing, Mich., and one aunt, Miss Annie WITHROW, of Dublin.
Funeral services will be announced later awaiting word of arrival of his brothers.

BELL, David Kent, 77, of Dublin, died Sunday, January 26, 2003, in the
Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Dublin on April 5, 1925, and was
the son of the late Gordon Cloyd Bell, Sr. and Mary Withrow Bell. He
attended Greenbriar Military Academy in Lewisburg, W.Va. He volunteered for
WWII and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, Eighth Air Force at Buck,
England as a nose gunner. He was shot down after a raid on Magdeburg,
Germany. He left the service as a Staff Sergeant following the war. He
graduated from Virginia Tech in 1950 with a B.S. in Agricultural
Engineering. He enjoyed a career using his engineering skills for a number
of government contractors, notably on the Saturn and Apollo space programs
until 1970. He embarked on a career as a farmer and later ran Bell's Bed and
Breakfast with his wife, Helga. He was active in the Skyline Soil and Water
Conservation District, the Society of the Cincinnati (descendants of
Revolutionary War officers), Virginia Tech alumni activities and many
others. Surviving are his wife, Helga Lewandowski Bell of Portsmouth;
ex-wife, Beverly Gould Bell of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two children, Sheri
Lynn Bell of Alexandria and James Gordon Bell of Dublin. Funeral service
will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. from the New Dublin Presbyterian Church with
Rev. Jean Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visiting will be Wednesday from Stevens Funeral Home where the family will
receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home,
Pulaski.

BENTLEY, Elsie Fowler, 95, of 1201 MacGill St., Pulaski, died Wednesday morning December 26, 2001, at Highland Ridge Rehab. Center. Born August 10, 1906, in Carroll County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Sena Ann Smith Fowler and Joseph Fowler. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Lama Bentley, and six brothers and sisters that she was like a mother to. Mrs. Bentley was the oldest member of Anderson Memorial Presbyterian Church. She is survived by two sons, Stanley L. Bentley and Lama Duane Bentley both of Pulaski; a special daughter, Frances Pauley of Pulaski, half-sister, Hazel Ballard of High Point, N.C.; half-brother, Guy Stanley Horton of New Jersey; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe McCoy officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Visiting will be anytime after 2 p.m. Thursday at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m.

BENTLEY, Stella Anna Lee Burton, 82, of Riner, departed from this life on Friday, May 9, 2003 to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter Q. Bentley, Sr., her parents, Claude and Blanche Burton, her two precious daughters, Rosa Lee Duncan and Betty Jane Parks, a sister Mary Blevins and brothers, Gilmer, Howard and Fred Burton and a very special friend, David Phillips. She is survived by her loving family; a son and daughter-in-law, Walter Quinton, Jr. and Betty Bentley, Christiansburg; a daughter, Dolly Bentley of Riner; a daughter and son-in-law, Velva and Eddie Altizer, Salem; grandchildren and their spouses, Rex and Bonnie Bentley of Riner, Steve and Pam Bentley of Greeneville, Tenn., Theresa and Forest Hinkley of Riner, Dan and Lynn Bentley, Brad and Marie Bentley, all of Pilot, Tom and Mary Bentley of Christiansburg, Cathy and Ralph Collins of Floyd, Tammi and Richard Sutphin of Christiansburg and Sonja and Craig Reed of Floyd; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Many nieces and nephews and her special friends at Heritage Hall also survive. Special thanks to Pastor Lee Sarver and all those who took such special care of her in her final days. Stella was a very special person who was a true blessing to all those who knew her. She will be greatly missed and we all look forward to seeing her again in our heavenly home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2003 at the Walton Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Lee Sarver officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens. Delma Johnson Bethea, age 83 of Radford, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2003 at the New River Valley Medical Center. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, owner of SW Virginia Tobacco Co., and was a veteran of World War II having served in the Army Air Corp. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar W. Bethea. Survivors include two sons, John S. Bethea, George N. Bethea both of Radford; daughter, Hazel Long of Rim Rock, Ariz.; four sisters, Lillian Turnquist and Ruby Hutchison both of Newport, Wash., Elva Johnson of Spokane, Wash. and Mildred Wrinkle of Milton-Freewater, Ore.; one brother, Lloyd Johnson of Spokane, Wash.; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 4 at 11 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church in Radford, with Rev. Kris Kramer officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Burial Park in Radford. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.

HENRY W. BISHOP
Word has been received here of the death of Henry W. BISHOP, aged 73 years, which occurred Tuesday evening about 7:30 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Margaret WHITE, at Radford. His wife, who was Miss. Mary REED, preceded him to the grave about eight years ago.
Mr. BISHOP was a resident of this place for about fifty years, having sold his farm about seven years ago, and since made his home in Montgomery county.
The following children survive: Mrs. Margaret WHITE, Radford; Mrs. Henry BISHOP, Montgomery county; Mrs. R. L. COVEY, Mrs. N. M. ALBRIGHT, Mrs. E. M. DODSON, and James BISHOP all of Indianola, Iowa; John BISHOP, Snowville, and Mrs. Viola THOMPSON.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock and burial was in the Radford cemetery.
In spite of his illness, death came as a shock to his many friends and relatives.

30, 2001 at her Pulaski home, after a long illness. She spent many faithful
and active years as a member of the First United Methodist Church of
Pearisburg. More recently, she was a member of the First United Methodist
Church of Pulaski. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Halsey
Bishop; daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Terry Maultsby of Raleigh; son and
daughter-in-law, Don and Margaret Bishop of Salem; son and daughter-in-Law,
Alan and Penny Bishop of Danville; grandsons; Paul and Andy Phlegar of
Atlanta, Keith and Kevin Bishop of Salem, Bradly and Jeffry Bishop of
Danville; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted
Monday July 2, 2001 at 11 a.m. at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home with
Dr. Randy Frye and Dr. Fred Austin officiating. Burial will follow in the
West View Cemetery in Radford. Visiting will be anytime Sunday after 12 noon
at Thomas M. Seagle & Sons Funeral Home where the family will receive

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Ida Dulaney Bishop, two brothers, Ray and Junior Bishop, two sons-in-law, Roger Woolwine and Eldon Duncan. He leaves behind a loving, caring wife, Daisy H. Bishop; other survivors, daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara B. Duncan, Willis, Gail B. and Lloyd Cole, Dublin, Brenda W. and Wayne Henegar, Alum Ridge; sons and daughters-in-law Donnie W. Bishop, Floyd, Danny and Pat Bishop, C. Tanya graduated from St. Francis de Sales and attended Ohio University and St. Mary's of the Springs. She was employed by Concierge-Drever Management in Houston, Tex., Rehabilitation Services Commission and the U.S. Army Recruiting Service in Oh. We wish to thank Dr. Douglass Fosselman, Mt. BLAIR, Ralph Jerome, (Pat), resident of 903 North Jefferson Avenue, Pulaski, passed away quietly in his sleep Tuesday, May 20, 2003 at Pulaski Community Hospital in the presence of his wife, Hazel Arnette Blair, and son, John Anthony "Tony" Blair. Born March 11, 1910 in Huddleston, Bedford County, Virginia, the son of his late parents, John Caldwell Calhoun Blair and Annie Myrtle Shrader Blair, he is also survived by his sisters, Gladys Annette Blair and Margaret Blair Grimes; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, John "Jack" Caldwell Calhoun Blair, Jr. Mr. Blair, a member of the Corps of Cadets, graduated in 1932 from Virginia Tech with a B.S. Degree in agricultural engineering. He first worked for Virginia Electric Power, but in the mid-1930's he came to southwest Virginia and eventually Pulaski to work for Appalachian Electric Power Company. In the early 1940's prior to World War II, Appalachian loaned him to Virginia Tech for a short time as an instructor in agricultural engineering. For 2 1 / 2 years in World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps in Egypt. One of his assignments was to procure furnishings for the Yalta Conference of Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin. He returned to the United States in 1945 and retired from the reserves in 1960 as a Lieutenant Colonel. From 1945 until retirement in 1975, Mr. Blair worked again for Appalachian Power Company, eventually rising to the position of Rural and Residential Sales Supervisor, finally retiring after nearly 40 years of service. Mr. Blair was a member of the Pulaski First United Methodist Church. He was a past president of both the Pulaski Lions Club and the Virginia section of the American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE). He was proud to be a life member of ASAE and the Retired Officers Association. One year, in the early 1960's, he helped sponsor a Lions Club train to Galax, Virginia along what is now known as the New River Trail. On May 26, Mr. Blair would have been married for 61 years. In retirement he loved to travel with his wife, Hazel. He also loved to walk. Many people will remember seeing him with his short brim hat on brisk walks around Pulaski where he frequently covered 2 to 3 miles per day in sun, rain, snow, or sleet. He still took at least a one mile-walk in his 90th year. Celebration of his life will be held Friday, May 23, 2003 at 3 p.m., at Stevens Memorial Chapel, 815 Randolph Avenue, Pulaski. Prior to the service, the family will be present to receive guests from 2 to 3 p.m. Interment will be private. The family asks that any contributions be given to First United Methodist Church, 135 4th Street, Pulaski, Va. 24301. Condolences may be sent to P.O.
