A patriotic national reputation for operational independence from government subsidy serves a student body of 1,450 students who study a rigorous, structured core curriculum rooted in the enduring truths of the Western tradition. Thirty-two traditional majors, seven interdisciplinary majors, and nine pre-professional programs are offered in class sizes averaging fifteen and led by a distinguished teaching faculty numbering to students ten-to-one. A vibrant student life offering opportunity in Division II varsity, club and intramural athletics, choral and instrumental music, theatre, dance, Greek life, spiritual life and volunteerism, student government, student publications, and numerous academic, political, and interest-based clubs and honorary societies, is animated by an Honor Code signed by all students, challenging the goal of self-government. Graduates are placed at a rate of 97% within six months of graduation, leaving the College shaped by an experience purposed to “developed the minds and improve the hearts,” and successfully equipped not only for employment or graduate study, but for the broader work of virtuous living. Students lean toward service clubs and organizations, fine arts, and athletics as primary areas of involvement. Spiritual: Vibrant without rules, supportive without being restrictive, and openness to discuss challenging questions, are phrases often used.
