A research proposal is a document written by a researcher that provides a detailed description of the proposed research (Punch, 2010). According to Wilson (2014), a research proposal seeks to answer the why? what? how? where? when? questions of a research to be undertaken. The main purposes of a research proposal is to show the justification for research, to seek gaining approval to conduct the research or as a way to receive funding for research. In many respects, a research proposal follows a similar structure the final research project mainly focusing on the first three chapters which are the introductory, literature review and methodology chapters. Generally, a research proposal contains all the key elements involved in the research process and include sufficient information for the readers to evaluate the proposed study (Punch, 2010). More explicitly, a standard research proposal include a title, background of the research, research problem, research objectives, research questions, research hypothesis, significance of the study, brief literature review, brief research methodology, work plan and the budget (Wilson, 2014).
