Commander Scott J. Buchar, USN
Commander Scott Buchar is a native of Joliet, IL. He attended the United States Naval Academy, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in History in 1997. He then reported for flight training at NAS Pensacola in September 1997. He continued training at NAS Whiting Field, FL, NAS Meridian, MS, and NAS Kingsville, TX, and was designated a Naval Aviator in January 2000.
After completing F-14A fleet replacement training with VF-101, CDR Buchar reported to the Checkmates of VF-211. His initial deployment was in November 2001 aboard USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74) in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. In October 2003, CDR Buchar deployed again with VF-211 aboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM. In August 2003, he was selected by his peers for the Commander, Fighter Wing Atlantic, 2003 Junior Officer Leadership Award.
In March 2004, CDR Buchar reported to NAS Lemoore, CA, and the Flying Eagles of VFA-122. There he transitioned to the FA-18 E/F Super Hornet. After initial Super Hornet training, he remained at VFA-122 as a Fleet Replacement Squadron instructor responsible for training newly winged aviators in the Super Hornet.
CDR Buchar next received orders to the Air Command and Staff College, Maxwell AFB, AL. He completed Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) Phase I studies and graduated with a Masters in Military Art and Strategy.
In August 2008, CDR Buchar returned to the fleet as a department head with the Red Rippers of VFA-11. During his department head tour, he served as Maintenance Officer, Operations Officer, Quality Assurance Officer and Assistant Operations Officer. After completing workups, he deployed in January 2011 onboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65).
Following his department head tour, CDR Buchar reported to the Defense Intelligence Agency, Washington D.C., in April 2011. While assigned to Defense intelligence Agency he served as a TITAN Operations Officer and as a Defense Collection Strategist.
CDR Buchar has accumulated more than 2200 hours in various aircraft. His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Strike/Flight Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal and numerous unit, campaign and service awards.
CDR Buchar is married to the former Stacey Karcz of Joliet, IL. They have two children, Ryan and Tyler.
