65.The company must have been earning a lot money, judging from its high fares, large number of passengers, short routes and easy traffic conditions.
The Ferry fares already very high compared with many other ferry services.
66.Both services are already some of (if not the most) most expensive local transportation fees in all of Hong Kong. Raising fees further is unreasonable and unfounded. It is clear that both operations must be mismanaged or improperly accounted.
68. Very sad
69. Please record my objection to the proposed fare increases for the Discovery Bay to Central ferry and the internal bus fares (within DB).
Given that there seems to be no allowed competition to operate a Central to Discovery Bay ferry service, then the DB/Central ferry fare should be comparable to other operators for similar routes (e.g. Central to Park Island). The DB operator should get in line with other operators before considering any increase in fares and the Transport Department needs to recognise a monopolistic situation.
70. As one of the senior citizens in Discovery Bay, I should like to convey my thanks to you on behalf of all the seniors in DB for your unceasing efforts to secure lower rates for us on the DB ferry and franchised buses. It would be wonderful if you could have secured lower bus fees for us on the internal routes as well. I know you are working on this and I applaud you for your efforts. All the seniors are very much against any increase in fares on the internal routes. Many of us do not even have an old-age pension so any increase would be a hardship for us. Thanks for working for us.
73. This is the 3rd or 4th increase in less than 8 years or so? And always
giving the same reasons that does not make sense at all. Fuel has NOT increased, Manpower costs are
not increased significantly, not has the maintenance costs. The ferry schedules have been drastically
reduced compared to 5 years ago, which should reduce the costs.
In comparison: Peng Chau – Central and vv ferry fares have been unchanged for over 10 years
as far as I know. (HK$ 14.40 slow ferry (35 min only) , HK$ 26.80 fast ferry (less than 25 min ride and
faster than the DB ferries!) A similar distance, using older ferries that probably consume more fuel and
requires more maintenance than the DB ferries.
I spend 40% (!!) less if I take the ferry from Kai To pier to Peng Chau and than the ferry from
Peng Chau to Central.
74. How come DB ferry fare is so much higher than any other ferry's in HK.
We need to demand their financial report from DBTS.
81. The DBTSL keeps asking for large increases which do not correspond to the reality. While they are only worrying about their profit, they don’t take into consideration the impact on families living in DB. The transportation cost to DB is not only the highest in Hong Kong. It is also poorly ran and the only idea of looking at internal savings should solve their problems if they have any. The fact is that no one can know as they don’t wish to disclose any documents.
But the reduced ferry frequency was a big step forward and should have solved their “problems”. If they continue to raise the costs like this, we will have no other choice but to considering leaving DB, along with others who have already done so.
82. This proposal is completely unacceptable, and no doubt HKR are fully aware of this. As we know from previous experience, HKR is proposing a blatantly unreasonable fare increase in order to go through the motions and finally reach an apparent 'compromise' agreement with the government, who'll then give them the fare increase they'd really wanted all along.
Using fuel prices as an excuse for the rise is not just disingenuous, it's contemptuous. Fuel prices are still far lower today than they were when the last fare rises were agreed two years ago. I don't believe salaries have increased by 10% in that time either - mine certainly hasn't.
HKR claims that the transport companies are separate, but does anybody actually believe this? Of course not. Any decision on transport in DB is made by HKR, and until they publish their accounts, they cannot possibly expect anything but anger at these proposals.
Clearly, HKR/DB Transportation/DB Transit don't care about the opinions of their captive customers. As long as the cash comes in and the Transport Department remains willing to be manipulated by HKR, they'll continue this regular cycle of increases. It's tiresome, cynical and abusive of their monopoly position, and it's about time we had a bit of democratic representation in this town.
83. At least get a look at their financials first, right!?
86. Re: Ferry services; the current fare must be among the most expensive fares in Hong Kong? The ferries are very well used, it is extremely unlikely that a company cannot make a profit. Moreover the fuel used is of very bad quality, covering DB plaza and D-Deck with diesel fumes all the time. We can say that DB=DIESEL BAY!!! If the ferry company promises to use CLEAN fuels I’m sure most DB residents are willing to accept a fare increase. I for sure world.
Re: Bus services: same problems as ferries with bunker fuels being used. Let them use cleaner fuel! Another problem with the busses is that the majority fleet is extremely OLD. This results is very noisy and polluting vehicles on the DB roads. Personally I have been comtemplating moving away because in my house we constantly near the old buses come and go.
Conclusion: Discovery Bay Transportation Services Limited must take concrete steps to improve the air pollution in DB, and in return I would be willing to accept higher fares. Now all we see is increased fares every few years, and NO improvement in services at all.
