Returning of graded materials:All tests, labs, and assignments will be processed as quickly as possible. My TAs will grade quizzes and parts of the exam that do not require interpretation (T/F, MC, fill-in questions). I grade all questions that require interpretation. Please do not ask when assignments will be returned! We work as fast as possible. I generally return all materials the following class period. Exams will not be returned. You may make an appointment with the professor to review the exam. This is done in the interest of security.
Emails: I will only correspond with you regarding class performance if you email me using the Guilford College email address. In addition, if I have to send emails to the entire class, I will only send to Guilford College email addresses. It is your responsibility to check both Moodle your Guilford College email on a regular basis.
A note on lab grading: Lab grading will be based on three assignments: weekly checks of the lab journal & your ability to progress through the assigned slides, the final lab exam, and one subjective grade based on your ability to be a positive and helpful member of the learning community. You will be graded on lab preparedness and preparation. This is normally a subjective measure of your helpfulness, cleanliness, and lab organization. Class participation is a factor as well.
Lab journal checks are worth 20 points per check (total of 100 points), the final subjective grade is worth 20 points, and the final practical slide ID exam is worth 100 points. The final lab journal is also worth 100 points.
Grading, however, is not and cannot be an exact science. The rights under this policy, therefore, are limited to ensuring that students receive the faculty member's good faith evaluation of their work. Moreover, in order for the protection of anonymous grading to be meaningful, students do not have the right to negotiate with a faculty member for a higher grade once a lab has been graded.
Grading: You will have three exams, each worth 50 points. Each exam will cover lecture material and student presentations.
