GEIGER LAUNCHES TUXEDO COMPONENT LOUNGE AT NEOCON 2011
June 03, 2011
Geiger International introduces Tuxedo Component Lounge, a highly tailored lounge seating group built on a series of simple base elements from which a full array of lounge seating configurations can be specified. Tuxedo marries the flexibility and functionality of sectional seating with the elegance of a crisply tailored sofa. The group makes its debut at the Geiger Chicago Merchandise Mart showroom at NeoCon, June 13-15.
The Tuxedo Component Lounge group can be configured to suit a multitude of lounge areas including executive offices, executive lounges, casual conference areas, lobby and reception areas, and residential environments. Tuxedo is designed to anchor a lounge space without visually overpowering the room.
The most basic components include a club seat platform, a settee platform and a three-seater platform. From these three base platforms, the designer can configure a museum bench, a daybed, an armless lounge, a chaise lounge, a corner sectional and a standard lounge, in a multitude of configurations and scales. Despite such functionality, the structure of the components is nearly invisible. “In my architecture, I always try to make my buildings appear as light as possible,” says designer Craig Bassam of BassamFellows. “I pare back all the unnecessary bulk and then express the structure in an honest and elegant way. I apply the same philosophy to my furniture designs.” The mass of the upholstered seat deck and back floats off the floor and cantilevers on finely proportioned steel legs inset from the edges of the piece creating visual lightness and “air.”
Like a classic tuxedo, the arm and back panels of the lounge are the same height but the proportion is new. The height is lowered to create a low horizontal band from arm to back while the seat deck has ample width for comfort. Together with the airiness of the steel legs, the overall look is low and sleek—International Style—yet the seat height is distinctly American, at a comfortable 17 inches.
The Tuxedo Component Lounge utilizes fine upholstery details that ensure the role of the craftsman. Arm panels are gently rounded and top stitched. The seat and back cushions are ergonomically shaped from a dual density foam for both firm support and softness. The seat and back cushions are quilted providing handcrafted detail and a softly tailored surface. (A non-quilted version also is available.) “Comfort is extremely important to me. I wanted these pieces to set a new comfort standard for the contract market,” adds Bassam.
Experience Tuxedo Component Lounge for yourself by visiting Geiger International at the Chicago Merchandise Mart, on the third floor in suite 318.

GEIGER CREATES THE WORLD OF THE COLLABORATIVE EXECUTIVE FOR NEOCON 2011
June 03, 2011
Geiger International introduces a new showroom experience for its Merchandise Mart location for NeoCon 2011. The showroom is transformed into the C-level floor of a corporate headquarters building, complete with public areas, meeting spaces, a chairman's suite, enclosed offices and an executive suite, in an environment created for the "Collaborative Executive".
Welcome to the Top Floor
Designed as a progression of spaces from public to private, the Collaborative Executive concept illustrates the current evolution in the way today's executives work. The showroom design acknowledges that the types of interactions and work an executive does in a given day are less predictable and require new flexibility. Whether collaborating with internal constituencies, meeting with outside audiences or performing heads-down tasks, the Collaborative Executive requires spaces appropriately equipped, with furniture and with technology, for each of these scenarios.
At first glance, the furniture makes a dramatic statement in wood and color. A new palette of matte wood finishes was developed for the display, building on Geiger's classic colors with finishes that broaden the spectrum while accentuating the natural beauty of the ash and oak species featured. This palette makes its debut in Chicago at NeoCon.
The Changing Ways of Working Together
Beyond the first impression, the vignettes show how residential sensibilities continue to filter into the work environment, further reflecting the changing ways office work is accomplished. Based on fresh interpretations of Geiger's successful Tablet and Levels casegoods collections, the furniture configurations mix highly structured, rectilinear forms with a rich palette of fine leathers, textiles, marble and wood. The resulting combinations simultaneously emphasize comfort, modernism, collaboration and corporate image, in furniture thoughtfully integrated into the interior architecture, just as custom millwork would be.
Designed by Geiger creative directors Craig Bassam and Scott Fellows, of Connecticut-based BassamFellows, the new showroom experience simultaneously references the past while paving the way for tomorrow’s executive environments. Scott Fellows of BassamFellows explains, “When we were researching the Geiger archives, we came across a vintage article from The New York Times that described Geiger designer Ward Bennett’s style as ‘Minimalism Made Sensual’. We think the quote perfectly describes the Geiger lifestyle vision, and we wanted the space to reflect it.”
Fellows adds, “The component casegoods are configured to appear as fine custom cabinetry. The new matte finishes reveal the natural beauty and subtle variation of the wood grain. And, extensive use of stone, leather, and wool flannel add to the ‘high-touch’ nature of the space.”
New Seating and Table Introductions for NeoCon
The furniture combinations set the stage for Geiger's newest introductions, the Sotto executive chair, designed by George Simons Jr.; Loophole occasional tables, designed by Jay Chapman; and Tuxedo Component Lounge, designed by Geiger creative directors, BassamFellows. See separate release for more information about Geiger's new-product introductions for 2011. Visitors are invited to experience the world of the Collaborative Executive for themselves during NeoCon at Geiger International's showroom at the Merchandise Mart, on the third floor in suite 318.

GEIGER SOTTO EXECUTIVE CHAIR DEBUTS AT NEOCON 2011
June 03, 2011
Geiger International introduces Geiger Sotto, a new executive chair for private offices or meeting spaces. Offering a beautifully proportioned silhouette, Sotto breathes new life into the desk/task category with a design that creates a unique harmony between comfortable work chair, objet d'art and coveted status symbol. The chairs make their debut at the Geiger Chicago Merchandise Mart showroom at NeoCon, June 13-15.
Well suited to environments in which a quiet design statement is desired, Sotto was in fact named for the Italian expression, sotto voce, meaning "in a quiet voice". Sotto's emphasis is on beautiful forms, hand craftsmanship and fine materials that gain even more character with time. "I started by looking at clothing, bags, briefcases, objects that are very personal," says designer George Simons Jr. "I wanted Sotto to be like wrapping yourself in a beautiful quilt, or a great jacket that gets better the more you wear it."
Sotto returns the practice of hand craftsmanship to commercial production, avoiding the trend toward chairs that are made by highly mass-produced moulding processes. Sotto’s fine sewing and selvedge edge detailing require skilled handwork not possible through machine production. Simons adds, "Geiger is known for absolute quality and craftsmanship, so I said, 'let's distinguish this chair with craft'. I blended modern forms with traditional materials, and with craft."
Though not necessarily designed as a high-tech "ergonomic" chair, the Sotto vernacular also includes a selection of comfort options, such as a headrest on the highback version, an ottoman and a lumbar pillow. "I designed options that encourage the sitter to vary his or her posture throughout the day. It's not about sitting upright in a chair for eight hours. It's healthy to change your posture over the course of the day."
Available in two heights, two arm options, two upholstery-stitch details, three base finishes and optional accessories, Sotto offers a wide range of customization options to fit any design statement and style, from traditional to transitional to contemporary.
Geiger Sotto executive chairs, like all Geiger furniture, are manufactured at facilities that are powered entirely by green electrical energy. Energy used is harnessed from resources such as sunlight, wind or water flow and placed into the electrical grid, making the facilities carbon neutral in the use of electrical energy. Sotto will be GREENGUARD certified by its initial offer date, expected to be September 2011. Sotto also carries Geiger's 12-year warranty.

GEIGER INTRODUCES LOOPHOLE OCCASIONAL TABLES AT NEOCON 2011
May 23, 2011
Geiger International introduces Loophole occasional tables, a collection of coffee tables and side tables for commercial and residential interiors. With smoothly intersecting planes forming the solid-wood base, Loophole adds a sculptural, organic shape to Geiger's occasional table offering. The table makes its debut at the Geiger Chicago Merchandise Mart showroom at NeoCon, June 13-15.
Loophole boasts a unique base that can be flipped in either direction (with its wide end on the floor or under the glass top). "When working on Loophole, I wanted to design a simple shape that does more than one thing," says designer Jay Chapman. "With the small end on the floor, Loophole has a more commercial feel, with an easier approach. Turned over, with the large end on the floor, it takes on a residential character."
The Loophole table base’s intersecting “loops” appear to form one continuous shape, but the optical illusion is courtesy of Geiger’s state-of-the-art wood-carving capabilities. Upon closer inspection, Loophole is a celebration of precisely fitted mitered corners and thoughtfully designed joins at every seam. The table’s glass top reveals both the smoothly arcing inner curves and the straight-line outer taper of the base. The wood base is available in solid ash, including natural and ebonized finishes, or solid walnut, in eight finish colors. The glass tops are 1/2" thick clear, low-iron glass.
Loophole tables, like all Geiger furniture, are manufactured at facilities that are powered entirely by green electrical energy. Energy used is harnessed from resources such as sunlight, wind or water flow and placed into the electrical grid, making the facilities carbon neutral in the use of electrical energy. Loophole also carries Geiger's 12-year warranty.
Loophole tables are now available for order. For more information and pricing, call your authorized Geiger representative or visit www.geigerintl.com/products/loophole.
