About Morgantown Theatre Company
Morgantown Theatre Company (MTC) is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization dedicated to enriching children’s lives through the theatre arts.
One of the strengths of the MTC is helping children become aware of their roles in the community and their responsibility for improving community life through the arts. Over the past six years, MTC students have been involved in Make A Wish Foundation benefits, audience participatory performances for the senior care facilities in collaboration with United Way, WV Promise Statewide Conference, Curtain Call for Kids, the July 4th celebration at Riverfront Park, the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympics State Competition, Kid’s Day, BOPARC Balloon Festival, and enrichment programs at local schools.
Fall and Spring
MTC’s largest program is the Children’s Community Theatre. Students from ages 6-18 and their families participate each semester. Students are involved in acting, directing, singing, dancing, lights, sound effects, set/prop design and construction, make-up, stage crew and stage management. These activities prepare the students in a wide variety of life skills including teamwork, responsibility, problem solving, and leadership.
There are no formal auditions, except for singing roles in musicals. Rehearsals are usually one to three times per week depending on the age of the student and his/her role. Rehearsals continue through the end of the semester (3-4 months) and culminate in a public presentation.
