Windows 8 Tablets (Venue 11 Pro and Venue 8 Pro)
Q: Why are there two variations of the Venue 11 Pro?
A: The Intel Atom config of the Venue 11 Pro was designed to be a direct replacement for the Latitude 10 tablet. In addition, we wanted to offer customers a sub-$500 product that had amazing expandability/functionality that our competitors could not match. We also wanted to offer customers the ability to have high performance systems (Venue 11 Pro configs with Intel Pentium and Core I) that would support Intel VPro and Windows 8.1 64-bit. A different motherboard was required to accommodate the higher performance processor. Therefore – two variations.
Q: Why does the Venue 8 Pro NOT come with NFC (Near Field Communications)?
A: The simple answer – we ran out of space. Unlike other devices that offer NFC, the Venue 8 Pro comes standard with Dual-band 2x2 MIMO 802.11 a/b/g/n/ Wi-Fi. This is a very high performance version of Wi-Fi and required more room inside the chassis for antennas. Therefore the tradeoff was to not offer NFC.

Q: Does Windows have current apps available in the app store?
A: Yes – sort of. Please Read! The Microsoft App Store has most all of the favorite apps for both consumers and commercial customers. (i.e. Angry Birds, Cut The Rope, Wells Fargo Banking, etc.). What you will not see are a lot of apps for web services that the Venue 8 Pro and Venue 11 Pro can run natively.
Example – if you want to run ebay, Amazon, Facebook, or Twitter for example on an iOS or Android device – you would normally use the “App” to do so. Why? Because the web browsing experience on the full site would be less than ideal and possibly very user unfriendly. With the Windows 8.1 products, you are using a full version of Internet Explorer on a large screen. Simply pull up Facebook.com or Amazon.com and use the full site at full functionality. If you go there a lot (i.e. Facebook) simply create a Start tile for Facebook. Done – instant app with more functionality than Apple and Google.
Q: Can customers with a Microsoft Enterprise Agreement buy Dell tablets with the home OS and then upgrade to Pro for free under their licensing agreement?

Q: Why are we limiting Venue 11 Pro (Atom configs) to 2GB RAM as the Intel Baytrail chipset will support more?
A: Currently the OS / Chipset combination will only support a 32-bit operating system. Having a 4GB option would only allow customers to use 3.5GB due to the 32-bit limitation. As Microsoft develops more drivers to support 64-bit on Atom processors, Dell will look to offer a 4GB solution.
