Get Mail on your Smartphone
Android Setup
Learn about the new Android OS, Lollipop. Note, the screens below will differ from what you see on your phone, but the steps are similar.
Begin by tapping the launcher icon, then selecting the email app.
Now fill out your college email address and password and tap next.
Read on to setup your email account as an Exchange account. Select Exchange to continue and wait for the account information to be retrieved.
Fill in the server settings as shown below and tap Next to continue.
iOS Setup
Learn about the latest version of iOS. Note, the screens below will differ from what you see on your phone, but the steps are similar.
Begin by tapping Settings, and then scroll down and tap on "Mail, Contacts, Calendars".
Then, select "Add Account..." and Microsoft Exchange as the account type.
Now fill out your email, domain (nymc.edu), username (without "@nymc.edu") and password. Scroll down a bit and change the description as shown below. Then tap Next.
A new field will appear asking for the server name. Type "email.nymc.edu" and tap Next. Once your information is verified, select what you'd like to sync and tap Save to finish the process.
As the server settings are verified; you will be asked to allow some of the security settings of the phone to be managed by the Exchange server. This is done so that in the event that your phone is lost or stolen, the phone can be remotely wiped clean. You need to allow for this; otherwise, select Cancel and follow one of our other tutorials to get mail on your Android smartphone.
You're almost done! Review how often you want the phone to check for new messages, how much to synchronize with the Exchange server, etc. When you're ready, tap Next. Lastly, give your account a name and tap Done.
Before you can receive emails, you'll need to activate "device Administrator" which relates to what we mentioned earlier; allowing the server to wipe the phone clean in case it is ever lost or stolen to prevent college information from being compromised. Choose Activate to complete this setup, or select Cancel and follow one of our other tutorials to get mail on your Android smartphone.
