Gonzaga Leadership Award (Yearbook Publication)
(Presenter: Would Mr. Walsh come forward to present the award)
One of the many traditions at Gonzaga is the publication of our annual yearbook. This year will be no different from any other in that regard. The yearbook, many of you will come to realize (if you don’t already), is a priceless collection of the memories of your high school lives.
While many of us appreciate the product that is the yearbook, we do not often take the time to recognize the production effort behind it.
This year, one student in particular has taken it upon them self to see your yearbook creation through from beginning to end. Their effort has been tireless, dedicated, consistent and innovative.
For that she deserves your recognition.
This year’s recipient of the Gonzaga Leadership Award (Yearbook Publication) is Hayam Hamodat.

In addition to the amazing results, the students had a wonderful learning experience on the trip. From the musicals they saw, to experiencing Times Square and the massive crowds on Memorial Day weekend, travelling on the subway, listening to Jazz at Lincoln Centre in Dizzy's Club, visiting Central Park, a cruise on the Hudson and East Rivers, the Statue of Liberty, seeing Blue Man Group in performance, visiting Ground Zero and so on, it was a great trip. The behavior of the students on the trip was outstanding. We had comments from a steward on the flight from Montreal to New York as to how well behaved, polite and courteous our students were on the plane. The professional musicians in the Julliard Jazz Quintet even noted how nice it was to see two tables of young people at their performance last Wednesday night. And, believe me, they were by far the youngest in the room!
As well, the rapport between the students and chaperons was wonderful. The students were very respectful towards them and as a result, the chaperons also had a great time on the trip and interacting with the 99 students.
There were 27 groups from 11 different schools with over 700 students participating at this Festival from schools across Canada and the United States. The Gonzaga Music Students were excellent ambassadors for their school and their province and their conduct was exemplary at all times. Many thanks to their teacher chaperones: Mr. Sean Colcord, Ms. Anne Browne, Ms. Kathy MacPherson, Mr. Gerry Cowley and their directors Ms. Sheila Ryan and Mr. Douglas Vaughan.
