  • Bard Graduate Center, New York, NY

The Bard Graduate Center: Decorative Arts, Design History, Material Culture is a graduate research institute committed to studying the cultural history of the material world. Our degree program, research projects, and exhibition program together work to suggest a new field of questions at the crossroads where the decorative arts, design history, and material culture studies meet. At the BGC, our focus is on Cultura. This ancient Latin word referred to the class of activities in which human beings acted on, and so transformed, their natural surroundings. We have taken this as the outline of our institutional project: studying the substances intervened upon, the processes used to make these interventions, and the consequences of these interventions for the lives of human actors.

  • Northwestern University, Medill School, Evanston, IL

Journalism Medill trains graduate journalism students by immersing them in practical, hands-on, real-world journalism. Medill graduates work in traditional and new media; as magazine editors and multimedia producers; as news reporters and documentarians; as broadcasters and interactive editors; in start-ups and in venerable news companies. Students learn to report in and from Chicago’s vibrant neighborhoods, Medill’s downtown and Washington newsrooms, and, for those who choose to spend an extra quarter in a Global Media residency, in news organizations elsewhere in the world. All learn to use new digital tools to engage audiences with news and information they need and want to know. Integrated Marketing Communications Graduate education in IMC was invented at Medill. IMC focuses on a strategic and data-driven approach to consumer and stakeholder behavior and needs, and the communication strategies organizations can employ to foster engagement with a brand, cause or organization. Students are involved in real-world, real-time, client/sponsor-driven projects where they gain skills, knowledge and experiences necessary to meet today's marketing challenges. While a few years of professional work experience are preferred, students with outstanding academic records, excellent writing and quantitative skills and some related internships, plus strong motivation toward a career in marketing, do well in the program.
