OVERVIEW Experience public healthcare in Europe and solidify your interest

in the health professions!



-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Atlantis Project offers pre-health/pre-med students at VCU an intensive group hospital internship in historic Toledo/Spain. Atlantis Fellows intern at public hospitals, learn about the European healthcare system by shadowing health professionals, improve language skills, and give back to the community by teaching English to local residents.​
Details: Students are assigned a preceptor and will experience 20+ hours/week of shadowing in the hospital, have the opportunity to teach English or provide other community service, plus participate in excursions and activities designed to immerse you in the local culture.
PROGRAM DATES March 5/6-12, 2016 (Departure March 3 or 4 from US to Madrid and depart

from the Madrid to the US on March 12)

ELIGIBILITY Honors students from all academic disciplines with an interest in

pursuing a career in the health professions are encouraged to apply.


PLACEMENT FIELDS Students will shadow doctors in a variety of medical specialties and different areas of the hospital. The internship strictly abides by AAMC guidelines and is observational only (clinical skills are not practiced).
PROGRAM FEES $1,200 ($500 non-refundable deposit upon acceptance of invitation from the

Honors College – deadline December 1, 2015.

Accepted students will receive a $2,000 scholarship to cover the balance of the program fee of $700 and roundtrip airfare up to $1,300. Note: Airfare is only reimbursable with a boarding pass and receipt in the student’s name (not a parent). The program fee includes hospital placement and coordination, housing, local staff support, a welcome orientation, partial meal plan, at least two weekly

excursions, Wi-Fi access, local cell phone and pre-trip support.



Cost not included - Intl. roundtrip airfare, mandatory intl. health insurance $15/week, ground transportation, plus some meals and incidentals.
