F-Secure provides a secure method for transferring files by creating a secure transmission tunnel for data.

-
Run SSH Secure Shell Client from your desktop.
-
Press the space bar when prompted.
-
Enter the host name. The CS 002 computers are named for programming languages, such as java, fortran, cobol, etc. You must enter the entire host name: java.cs.wm.edu.
-
Enter your CS user name.
-
The port number is 22.
-
Select “password” as your authentication method. This is the same password you use in the lab.
-
Enter your password when prompted.
-
Click OK again
-
You are now connected and can type Unix commands in the terminal window.
Some Helpful Hints
-
You can open a file transfer window to transfer files from your computer to the host computer by clicking the “New File Transfer Window” button. Just click and drag files you want copied.
-
Access your H drive remotely by entering unix.wm.edu as the host name and your WM user name and password.
-
You must exit F-Secure SSH to save preference changes for them to take effect in other windows. Amusingly, if you make a preference change, then open a new connection, the new connection doesn't have the preferences changes yet.
-
When you make a connection to a machine you haven't connected to with F-Secure SSH, you will get a message that the "host fingerprint" is unknown. This is OK, as long as it only happens the first time you connect to a machine.
