Installing the Printer using a Wireless Network Connection

You can print a page of product information from the control panel of your All-in-One. The page includes the product IP address, and MAC address as well as the product network status. Follow these steps to print the information:

1. 
   Touch Setup ( ) on the touch screen.
   
2. 
   Touch Network , touch View Network Settings , and then touch Print Network Configuration Page .
   

• 
  Network name : The network name is the SSID (Service Set Identifier).
  
• 
  Password : WEP key or WPA passphrase
  

Follow these steps to open a new window to download and run the Network Diagnostic utility:

1. 
   Right-click this link, Network Diagnostic Utility , and then click Open in New Window .
   
2. 
   Read the requirements and description, click the Download only button, and then click Save to save the utility to your computer.
   
3. 
   Browse to the location where you saved the utility, and then double-click the USERHPNDU_2017.exe file to run it. If you get a firewall security alert, click Unblock, Accept, Continue, Yes, Allow, or Permit.
   
4. 
   When the Welcome window displays, click Show Advanced Tools , and then click Retrieve WPA/WEP Key .
   
5. 
   When the window appears showing the SSID, Encryption, and Network Key information, click the Show Network Key button to display the actual network key.

   Make sure that you have the following requirements before you begin:
   
   • 
     Network name: The network name is the SSID (Service Set Identifier).
     
   • 
     WEP key or WPA security passphrase
     
   • 
     A computer that is connected to the wireless network.
     
   • 
     Internet access. HP recommends broadband Internet access such as cable or DSL.
     
   • 
     Your wireless-capable HP product. Place it close to the computer during the installation procedure.
     
   • 
     Administrator privileges or password (for Vista)
     
2. 
   Make sure the product, access point, and computer are all on, and that the computer is connecting to the wireless network.
   
3. 
   Exit all applications running on your computer.
   
4. 
   Disconnect any USB or Ethernet cable that is connected to the product.
   
5. 
   If you previously installed the software for a USB connection and now want to change to a wireless network connection, follow these instructions to remove the USB installation before continuing.

  Go to the Printers folder:
  
  • 
    Windows Vista: Click the Windows icon ( ), click Control Panel , and then click Printers .
    
• 
  Right-click the icon for HP product, and click Delete to remove it.

   Touch Setup ( ) on the touch screen.
   
2. 
   Scroll down in the Setup menu, and then touch Network.
   
3. 
   Scroll down in the Network menu, and then touch Wireless Setup Wizard. The Wireless Setup Wizard searches for networks, and then displays them in a list.
   
4. 
   Touch the name of your network.

   Touch Enter New Network Name (SSID).
   
2. 
   On the on-screen keyboard, touch the appropriate letters and numbers to enter the network name (SSID).
   

   NOTE:

   Make sure that you enter the uppercase (capital) and lowercase (small) letters exactly. Otherwise, the wireless connection fails.

3. 
   When you finish entering the new network name, touch Done, and then touch OK.
   
4. 
   Touch Infrastructure, and then touch WEP encryption or WPA encryption.
   

5. 
   If prompted, enter the WEP or WPA key:
   
   1. 
      Touch the appropriate letters or numbers on the on-screen keyboard.
      

      NOTE:

      You must enter the exact uppercase and lowercase letters. Otherwise, the wireless connection fails.

   2. 
      When you are finished entering the WEP key or WPA key, touch Done and then touch OK to confirm.
      

6. 
   Make sure the product successfully connects to the network before continuing to the next step.
   

NOTE:

If a connection error message displays, make sure that the network name and security key are correct, and then follow the prompts to enter the information again.

   Insert the product CD into the CD drive of the computer, and then wait a few seconds for the software installer to start.

  Windows Vista: Click the Windows icon ( ), click Computer , and then double-click the CD drive.
  

  NOTE:

  If the User Account Control screen opens, click Allow to continue.

   Follow the on-screen instructions to start the installation.
   

NOTE:

If you previously installed the software and are changing the connection type from USB to wireless, click Add a device when the Uninstall the software or Add a device window opens

3. If prompted to choose the type of installation, Choose Recommended

Installation. The Recommended type of installation allows you to take

advantage of all your product features.

4. When prompted to choose a connection type, select the Network type,

not the USB type.

5. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish installing the software.

Installing the Printer in a Wireless Network (Ad Hoc Mode)

In order to connect the HP All-in-One to your computer (ad hoc), you need to create an ad hoc network profile on your computer. This includes choosing a network name (SSID) and WEP security (optional but recommended) for your ad hoc network.

Close all of the applications that are running on the computer.

   Click Start .

   Click Settings .
   
3. 
   Click Control Panel .
   
4. 
   Double-click Network Connections .
   
5. 
   Click Change settings of this connection .
   
6. 
   Click the Advanced tab.
   
7. 
   Clear the firewall protection check box and then click OK

  If the computer is connected to the Internet using cable or DSL, disconnect the Ethernet cable from the back of the computer.
  
• 
  If the computer is connected to the Internet using dial-up, disconnect the phone cord.

   Click Start .
   
2. 
   Click Settings .
   
3. 
   Click Control Panel .
   
4. 
   Double-click Network Connections .
   
5. 
   Right-click Local Area Connection and then click Disable .
   

NOTE:

If Enable displays in the pop-up menu, the Local Area Connection is already disabled.

   Repeat step 5 for each Local Area Connection that is listed.

   Click Start .

   Click Settings .
   
3. 
   Click Control Panel .
   
4. 
   Double-click Network Connections .
   
5. 
   Right-click Wireless Network Connection and then select Enable .
   

   NOTE:

   If Disable displays in the menu, the Wireless Network Connection is already enabled.

   Right-click the Wireless Network Connection icon and then click Properties .
   
7. 
   Click the Wireless Networks tab.
   
8. 
   Select the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings check box.
   
9. 
   Click Add , and then do the following:
   
   1. 
      In the Network name (SSID) text box, type a name for the network. For example, type Mynetwork .
      

      NOTE:

      Notice that the M in Mynetwork is uppercase (capital), and the rest of the letters are lowercase (small). This is important to remember in case you need to enter the SSID at a later time on the Wireless Setup Wizard.

   2. 
      If there is a Network Authentication list, select Open . Otherwise, continue to the next step.
      
   3. 
      In the Data encryption list, select WEP .
      

      NOTE:

      It is possible to create a network that does not use a WEP key. However, HP recommends using a WEP key to help secure the network.

   4. 
      Verify that The key is provided for me automatically check box is not selected. If it is selected, select the check box to clear it.
      
   5. 
      In the Network key text box, type a WEP key that has exactly 5 or exactly 13 alphanumeric (ASCII) characters.
      

      NOTE:

      For example, if you enter 5 characters, you might enter ABCDE or 12345 . Or, if you enter 13 characters, you might enter ABCDEF1234567 . ABCDE , 12345 , and ABCDEF1234567 are examples only. Select a combination of your choice.Alternatively, you can use hexadecimal (HEX) characters for the WEP key. A HEX WEP key must be 10 characters for 40-bit encryption, or 26 characters for 128-bit encryption.

   6. 
      In the Confirm network key text box, type the same WEP key that you typed in the previous step.
      
   7. 
      Write down the WEP key exactly as you typed it, including uppercase and lowercase letters.
      

      NOTE:

      You must remember the exact uppercase (capital) and lowercase (small) letters. If you enter your WEP key incorrectly on the unit, the wireless connection will fail.

   8. 
      Select the This is a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network; wireless access points are not used check box.
      
   9. 
      Click OK to close the Wireless Network Properties window, and then click OK again.
      
   10. 
       Click OK to close the Wireless Network Properties Connection window.

   Touch Setup on the display.
   
2. 
   Touch Network .
   

   NOTE:

   If the menu option you want is not visible on the screen, touch the arrows to scroll through all the menu options.

   Touch Wireless Setup Wizard .
   

This runs the Wireless Setup Wizard . The setup wizard searches for available networks and then displays a list of detected network names (SSIDs). The infrastructure networks appear first in the list, followed by available ad hoc networks.

   On the display, look for the network name you created on your computer. For example, Mynetwork.
   
5. 
   Touch the network name.

   Touch Enter a New Network Name (SSID) .

   Enter the SSID. Touch the appropriate letters or numbers on the visual keyboard.
   

   NOTE:

   You must enter the exact uppercase (capital) and lowercase (small) letters. Otherwise, the wireless connection will fail.

   When you have finished entering the new SSID, touch Done on the visual keyboard, and then touch OK .
   

   NOTE:

   If the HP All-in-One is unable to discover the network based on the network name you entered, you will see the following prompts. You may want to move the HP All-in-One closer to the computer and try running the Wireless Setup Wizard again to automatically discover the network.

   Touch Ad Hoc .

   Touch Yes, my network uses WEP encryption . The visual keyboard displays. If you do not want to use WEP encryption, touch No, my network does not use encryption . Go to step 7.

   If prompted, enter your WEP key as follows. Otherwise go to step 7.

   Touch the appropriate letters or numbers on the visual keyboard.
   

   NOTE:

   You must enter the exact uppercase (capital) and lowercase (small) letters. Otherwise, the wireless connection will fail.

2. 
   When you are finished entering the WEP key, touch Done on the visual keyboard.

   Touch OK again to confirm.
   

3. 
   When the HP All-in-One connects successfully to the network, go to your computer to install the software.
   
4. 
   After installing and testing the HP All-in-One, restore the firewall and then reconnect the Internet connection.
