Course Description:
|
The coverage of ethics and professionalism in engineering and computer science programs has become standard since ABET incorporated these and other “soft skills” as student outcomes in Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) and Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) accreditation criteria. Many programs have chosen to incorporate these topics in various courses across the curriculum while others have developed stand-alone courses. We at IMSciences has opted this course as a stand-alone course with objectives and outcomes elaborated in the next sections

Course Objectives:
|
The objective of the course is to make students aware of their professional responsibilities when they will work in IT sector. The course will teach students about the historical, social, ethical, economical and professional issues related to IT profession.
|
Student Learning Outcomes:
|
An understanding of professional, ethical, legal, security and social issues and responsibilities.
An ability to communicate effectively with a range of audiences.
An ability to analyze the local and global impact of computing on individuals, organizations, and society.
Recognition of the need for and an ability to engage in continuing professional development

Course Assessment(s):

As per IMSciences policy-Mid-term Exam (30%); Assignment (20%); Final-term Exam (50%)
Assignments (20%)
Professional Ethics – Students work in teams of three to analyze and report on various ethics scenarios. A short oral report and a one-page written report are required.
Life-long Learning – Students must attend a seminar or workshop and submit a one-page written report on what they learned.
Elevator Speech – Students deliver a three-minute personal commercial or sales pitch.
Term Essay – Students write a 500-word essay on a contemporary issue related to computing technology or a 500-word proposal for funding of a start-up company
