Internet of Things (IoT)

Physical objects such as animals, individuals or plants are embedded with unique identifier that will enable the transfer of data over the internet without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer contact.

Internet of Things connecting "everything" together

History:

The Internet of things has been around since decades. The first object was ever used was the Coke machine at Carnegie Melon University in the early 1980s. the study managed to connect to the machine through the internet to check the status of the machine and decide whether or not there to make their trip to the machine knowing that a cold drink is waiting for them. Nevertheless, the concept of Internet of Things wasn’t named until 1999. (Whatls.com, April,2015)

Goal of Internet of Things:

The issue was always that individuals have limited time, attention and even accuracy. Therefore, a huge number of data about things in the current real world individuals cannot take care of alone. Hence, internet of things uses machines and computers that gather data that they would be able to track and count everything without wasting resources and cost. (Whatls.com, April,2015)

Possibilities in locating internet of things are:

Drive of Internet of Things:

According to Steve Leibson “assign an IPV6 address to every atom on the surface of the earth, and still have enough addresses left to do another 100+ earths.” meaning, individuals can place an IP address to every physical thing on the planet. Thus, a rising number in the number of smart nodes, besides the amount of upstream data the nodes creates. Main current outcome of Internet of Things are:

  1. Going beyond machine to machine communications (M2M)

  2. These devices collect useful data with the help of various existing technologies and then autonomously flow the data between other devices.

Note: IBM has invested US $3 billion on a business that would help to filter the data coming from the equipped devices. They even named the project as the Internet of things foundation and one of their interesting targets is the weather company owner of the weather channel to create weather data applications to help businesses such as insurance, energy, retail and logistics. This could include (IEEE, April 2015)

Us and internet of things:

There might be a number of security issues related to using our private devices such as our mobile phones In connecting to Internet of things (IoT) systems. So should you consider not being connected? Should you be treated as a collection of data that are posted somewhere?

i biochip transponders: is injectable ID chip, is an electronic device that is inserted under the skin of an animal.
