iPad Computing Curriculum Plan
September 2015
Apps/ideas for curriculum coverage – this is not an exhaustive list by any means, please look at Blogs, websites and search the Appstore and be CREATIVE!!
Year 1 & 2
Use photographs to create a story/sequence/collage/avatar
Using the photographs taken in apps such as: Book Creator, My Story (more basic version of BC), Shadow Puppet, Adobe Voice, Pic Collage, Moldiv, Skitch, ThingLink (adding info to a picture), Over (make a poster), MorfoBooth 3D, Chatterpix Kids, YakIt Kids
Create simple text and images
Add text and images to Book Creator, My Story (more basic version of BC), ThingLink (add text to a picture), Over (make a poster), Balloon Bubbles + (add speech bubbles to an image)
Use a picture collage creator such as Moldiv, Skitch or Pic Collage; export to camera roll and use ThingLink / Over to add text.
Understanding instruction – making things happen (Programming and debugging)
Kodable, Bee-Bot (app), extending onto actual BeeBots and mats
Simple video recording / narration
Use the video option in camera, slow motion, time lapse etc. Place photos/images into Shadow Puppet/Adobe Voice and record a narration over the top of the images, this can be exported as a video.
Year 3 & 4
Controlling a pixie/BeeBot (Programming and debugging)
LightBot, Using the BeeBots and the mats, Cato’s Hike, ALEX, Cargo Bot
Writing stories/retelling stories
Basic book creation using Book Creator or My Story, creating videos using images (Adobe Voice and Shadow Puppet), creating images (Camera, Photo Booth, Pic Collage), Using a picture and retelling story using ThingLink
Simple moviemaking
Using apps such as Doink Greenscreen, Tellagami, ChatterPix, YakiT Kids, Stop Motion, PuppetPals HD, Adobe Voice, Shadow Puppet and Nito.
Safe use of Safari/web browsing/picture searches
Using Safari/Google to show basic search options, show sharing options and discuss (e-safety), show Image search options in Google. Introduce using apps such as FlickStackrXP for licence/copy write free image searches.
Creating pictures / manipulating images
Use camera/photo booth to take creative photographs, use collage tools (such as Moldiv, Skitch and PicCollage), use Photos app/SnapSpeed to do some simple editing of photos, and create images using Drawing Pad
Programming and debugging
Cato’s Hike, ALEX, Cargo Bot, LightBot, Extend with Lego Fix the Factory, begin with some work controlling Sphero and other ‘Robots’.
Year 5 & 6
Combining text, videos, sounds and graphics into Books
Using the various tools available in Book Creator to create immersive, multimedia texts. Add in video, photographs, text, colour, shapes and sounds. These can then be exported to iBooks (as ePubs) or to Seesaw (as Videos).
Combining a range of multimedia apps to create an iMovie
Using apps such as Doink Greenscreen, Tellagami, ChatterPix, YakiT Kids, Stop Motion, PuppetPals HD, Adobe Voice, Shadow Puppet and Nito. Saving all content to the camera roll and then add into a new movie project within iMovie.
Create interactive (AR) posters using Aurasma etc
Using apps such as Doink Greenscreen, Tellagami, ChatterPix, YakiT Kids, Stop Motion, PuppetPals HD, Adobe Voice, Shadow Puppet and Nito. Save information to the camera roll, using a poster created by the children as a trigger and the app Aurasma, these can be combined to make an interactive poster. Great for bringing the children’s learning to life and your displays amazingly exciting! More info in the DEP iPad user guide on iTunes U.
Manipulating sound/sound creation (iPad)
Using Garageband, Beatwave, Tune Train, Singing Fingers, AirVox, Monkey Drum, Soundrop, Magic piano to create music and manipulate sounds.
Programming and debugging
Scratch Jr, Tynker (quite high level programming, but in a fun way, some children may be capable), Lego Fix The Factory, Controlling Sphero (using Sphero Apps and Tickle, Sphero website has ideas and lesson plans) and any other ‘Robots’ we may purchase over the coming months.
Using iPad to support Literacy and Numeracy.
The iPad is a great tool to support other subjects too. For example: creating a movie to demonstrate a child’s learning is engaging and inspiring. This can all be saved in the app Seesaw to create a learning journal for each child, this can then be cross referenced to SOLAR.
E-Safety
Should be covered throughout the year in all aspects of the curriculum. Please focus when sharing information from apps and social media options are there. Also, opportunities are available during safety week. E-safety resources can be found in: StaffShared / Curriculum / iPad Lessons / E-safety

There is also an iPad planner pro-forma, also some completed plans. If you carry out a successful iPad based lessons please fill a pro-forma out and save here to build a bank of resources for all to share and be inspired by.
