6 x 1 hour studio entertainment shows presented by Paul Merton. 4 guests are given a costume, a set and a cast but no script and have to talk their way out of impossible situations. Each episode requires 8 different sets, the scheduling of over 120 costume changes within an hour and the utmost secrecy.

THE RESTAURANT – BBC2

15 x 1 hour observational programmes in which 18 would-be restauraters competed to win a restaurant with Raymond Blanc. Production involved the setting up of 9 restaurants and a shared house. Responsible for sourcing locations, suppliers and staff for all the restaurants – as well as supervising the logistics of running 12 camera crews per day whilst opening the restaurants to the public.

  • Responsible for budgeting, scheduling, cost managing and reporting of production

  • Negotiated presenter, staff, studio, post-production and distribution agreements

  • Responsible for clearance of all material used within the programme, ensuring E&O cover for titles that were either of unknown ownership or met with appropriate fair dealing regulations

  • Responsible for compliance approval of all scripts, rough cuts and completed programmes.

HEAD OF PRODUCTION, Visual Voodoo January 2005 – January 2006

Accepted 1-year freelance contract to oversee and supervise all of Visual Voodoo’s output in newly-created role which involved working closely with existing ITN infrastructure and instigating accounting and contracting procedures to better fit the needs of factual entertainment programme making.




  • Created, negotiated and maintained annual budget for all Company expenditure

  • Budgeting and scheduling all productions

  • Recruiting and contracting production and fulltime staff

I have been involved in the set-up of Woof TV from the start and have been instrumental in all aspects of running this small business; from setting up payroll requirements, VAT Registration and returns, to locating and negotiating office, edit and studio spaces.


  • Negotiated revised BBC budget and schedule

  • Negotiated production agreement under BBC’s new terms of trade

  • Negotiated presenter agreement

  • Supervising and managing 3 day teams

  • Monthly cost reporting to the BBC and weekly analyses to the Executive Producer

  • Scheduling of the recording of 40 episodes during 7 week period at London Studios

  • Scheduling of all post-production, graphics, VT edit

HEAD OF PRODUCTION, Rapido TV 1998 – January 2004

As Head of Production for Rapido TV, I had sole responsibility for all production budgets and schedules, staff recruitment, personnel and production practices of all commissioned productions and development work as well as personally managing Rapido TV’s own funded special projects intended for international sales.




  • Budgeting and scheduling all productions

  • Negotiating budgets and production agreements

  • Recruiting and contracting production and fulltime staff

  • Ensuring all overheads and recoupments are re-charged to each production

  • Submit all monthly cost and variance reports to broadcasters

  • Conducting weekly meetings with Production Managers and monthly cost report meetings with Production Accountants

  • Supply up to date financial information and forecasts for incorporation into Management Accounts

  • Controlling and scheduling all in-house post-production and equipment

  • Chief liaison with Managing Director with regard to current and future projects

  • Negotiating deals with suppliers and service providers for the benefit of the Company and its productions

  • Ensuring that all contractual obligations are met with each production

  • Instigating office policy changes (Health & Safety, Working Time Regulations etc)
