Hiro Tanaka is currently a Professor and the Director of the Cardiovascular Aging Research Laboratory at the University of Texas at Austin. He received a B.A. in physical education/martial arts at the International Martial Arts University in Japan, a M.S. in Bioenergetics from Ball State University, and a Ph.D. in applied physiology from the University of Tennessee. Dr. Tanaka’s research interests revolve around preventive cardiology and preventive gerontology, with primary research interests involving habitual exercise, aging, and vascular function. He has published over 200 research articles in the area. He is an elected fellow of various professional organizations including the American College of Sports Medicine, the American Heart Association, the Gerontological Society of America, and the Society for Geriatric Cardiology. Dr. Tanaka has been a member of the ACSM since 1991 and has served for the ACSM in various capacities, including a board member of the Texas ACSM, a president of the Rocky Mountain and Texas chapters of the ACSM, and an associate editor for the society journal, Exercise and Sports Sciences Reviews.
Thomas Trojian, MD
Dr. Trojian is a professor in the Department of Family, Community & Preventive Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine, Chief of the division of Sports Medicine and director of the Sports Medicine Fellowship program. He is the chair of the OA Action Alliance Steering Committee. He previously served as UConn Team Physician. He also served as sports medicine fellowship director, and director of injury prevention and sports outreach programs for the New England Musculoskeletal Institute at University of Connecticut School of Medicine. He is editor for two prominent sports medicine journals, he is the section editor of Nutrition and Ergogenic Aides for Current Sports Medicine Reportsand the associate editor for CJSM Thematic Issue. He has published in the area of ACL injury prevention and other areas of Sports Medicine with over 40 publications.
Joyan Urda, PhD
Joyan Urda, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of Exercise and Rehabilitative Sciences at Slippery Rock University. Dr. Urda earned her Ph.D. in Health Promotion and Wellness from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. She currently serves on the SRU President's Commission on Wellness. In addition, she is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, International Association for Worksite Health Promotion, and National Wellness Institute.
